Another enjoyable and relaxing stay at a top hotel and location by the Upper Ferry on the river Dart with great choice of places to eat within walking distance from hotel after a sumptuous meal in hotel restaurant the first night

A 3 day stay at the dart marina to celebrate my birthday was somewhat marred by the poor quality service, reception offered us a welcome drink which we did not receive upon returning to reception. The response to our complaint about the faulty desk top fan which was the only way of cooling our room as there wasn't any AC was sorry they are all the same which when you are spending £300 per night is not acceptable. Also because a ground floor room below us were smoking cigars leaving windows open left our room very smoky. They also did not take our complaint seriously when a cleaner left our room door open all day and a window at street level. The final insult was the breakfast on the day we were leaving the staff seemed to struggle with with basic requests possibly as some had poor English. On the second morning at breakfast we were made to feel completely unwelcome but a member of staff who just grunted at us when we spoke to him or made any requests. To summarise we were not made to feel welcome by staff and our complaints were not dealt with in a satisfactory manor.

Room Tip: ask for a room with balcony or ground floor garden.

The front of house service and restaurant service was poor. The food was ok; breakfast was very enjoyable in the restaurant. Rooms overlooking the river have spectacular views. Location is exceptional with great local amenities.

From the moment we were met in the private car park by the lovely John, this hotel did not fail to impress. Our room had a balcony with a view over the marina, river Dart, tree covered hills and the pretty town of Dartmouth. The room was well appointed and spotlessly clean. The staff were friendly and we really enjoyed a very relaxed break in this lovely part of the country. No need to use the car as there are an abundance of places to visit using the local ferries and steam train. Dartmouth is full of places to eat and unusual shops. Lovely.

Room Tip: 1st and 2nd floor, facing the Dart with a balcony.

I had a reservation here with my friend for 2 nights for the weekend in a Standard Twin Room including breakfast. They say that location is everything and this hotel is in the most perfect setting in Dartmouth - a place to hide away, relax and rejuvenate yet only a few steps to the ever changing scene of the riverside. Situated in the South Hams of Devon, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the whole landscape is breathtaking and Dartmouth has heritage, natural history, galleries, watersports, walks, gardens, culture and beaches - each day can be as full or relaxing as you wish.

After parking in the free car park (yayyyyy!) we were welcomed by very friendly and helpful reception staff. Our comfortable room had fantastic views of the River Dart and when I managed to pull myself away from the window I could see it was furnished to a very high and contemporary standard - soft neutral colours and natural fabrics. Tea and coffee making facilities, television, direct-dial telephone, binoculars and luxury fluffy bathrobes. The bathroom was sparkling.

We did not eat here for dinner but you could sit and have a few drinks on the sunny riverside terrace if you wanted, overlooking the River Dart and then head into town. Breakfast was terrific - delicious food served with magical views of the River Dart. All the common rooms were kept tidy and were nice and airy. It was nice to see that the hotel employed people who could actually speak English - sorry if that offends but it seems to be less and less the case in the UK and sometimes it does make life awkward.

As a guest of the Dart Marina you get complimentary use of their Health Spa including the swimming pool, steam room, Jacuzzi and fitness room. Elemis spa treatments are also available (it is advisable to book treatments in advance).

All in all - superb. Would I return? In a heartbeat.

We have stayed in Dartmouth a number of times, always at other hotels, the first advantage with the Dart Marina is that it has car parking. I think that most if not all rooms have river views, this means that there is always the ever changing view of the comings and goings on and near the river to watch. The hotel does seem to have chosen the staff with care, everyone seems committed to giving a positive performance, breakfast was very good with a good choice of both cold and cooked options. Rooms are very clean and well equipped albeit not with air conditioning, not that we need nit most of the time, but at the time of our visit it was very hot, but not unbearable as the afternoon sun concentrates on the back of the hotel. We would have liked to have seen a slightly larger dinner menu and slightly cheaper, OK for the wealthy yacht owners, but a bit rich for us poor plebs. Well done !

Love this hotel and third visit this year says it all! Staff welcoming and friendly food superb and dining room very inviting. The terrace and garden a lovely place to relax. Fantastic river views and easy walking into town. Rooms with balconies tend to be small but perfectly planned and balcony in summer more than makes up for this. If budget permits superior rooms are ideal.
