My husband and I had a truly great stay at this hotel last week-end. The hotel building itself is really interesting and very well appointed, and our room was extremely comfortable and had a brilliant view over the roof tops of the town. Perhaps best of all were the staff who couldn't have done more for us, and they have even sent on an item we left by mistake in the room. Nothing was too much trouble. All in all, a wonderful and very memorable week-end away at a miserable time of the year. We are certainly keen to return.

Thank you for your kind words. Sending on your item was no trouble at all and it was great to see that you enjoyed your stay. We hope to see you again soon at the hotel possibly when the weather has improved. Kind regards

We stayed at The Royal Castle Hotel for just one night in early February, this was a birthday treat for my wife. We tried to get a couple of nights away but the hotel was already fully booked. We parked outside the hotel and checked in, this was very speedy and we were shown to our room. Our car was then parked for us in the hotel car park near by.

We were given room 19, a lovely room with a view of the small harbour area and river beyond. We adored the room, it was very tasteful in decor. The bathroom was marvellous, spacious and had a Jacuzzi bath. My wife then noticed that there was a birthday card and a box of delicious fudge on the dressing table and a note wishing her a happy birthday from everyone at the Royal Castle Hotel. This was a lovely gesture.

We dined in the Galleon bar and were not disappointed, My wife ordered a rump steak which she said was cooked to perfection, I went for pork loin served with mash. 'Delicious'!!!
Breakfast was served on the first floor with a glorious view of the river, again the food was tasty and well cooked.
We cannot wait to visit The Royal Castle Hotel again in the future, we enjoyed our stay from start to finish it was one of the best hotels we have stayed in.

Thank you to everyone who made our stay so delightful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the river.

Popped into this hotel for a bite to eat at lunch last week and it was absolutely lovely, delicious in fact! Lovely setting in front of the river, ate in the bar with a lovely fire blazing and thoroughly enjoyed it haven't stayed in the hotel but would definitely consider it now, and absolutely intend to return.

We have just returned from a very brief visit to Dartmouth. Unusually I hadn't booked ahead but had decided to book a likely looking hotel/B&B on arrival. We had a couple of business meetings and at these I mentioned we needed hotel. Both parties immediately recommended the Royal Castle. I pointed out that it hardly looked it's best at the moment as the façade is currently covered in scaffolding; they however, assured me I would love the place - and they were right. In spite of its current unlovely (temporary) appearance the hotel was almost full but Christine on Reception agreed a fair discount for a river view room. The room. No. 2 was very comfortable and beautifully furnished with real antiques. The bathroom was very well presented with a Jacuzzi bath, shower over and the whole very pristine. The bed had lovely linen and there was a generous tray of biscuits, teas, coffee and real china including a teapot.
The most important things to mention about this hotel are it's amazing staff, great food and fabulous atmosphere. Dinner in the bar was a real treat (local skate wings) and breakfast the next morning was superb. This is England at it's best - go there and experience the beat of British and be proud!

Having stayed here many times over the years, in fact since Nigel Way took the place over about 30 years ago, the same excellent standards have never fallen. The place is unique and credit must go to Nigel, his daughter Becca, and the brilliant staff and management. We have just returned from a 2 night midweek break having taken advantage of his ' January sale ' and although as a couple of recent reviews have criticised the essential maintenance underway, disruption was minimal, and the deal was priced accordingly. The place was buzzing as usual, great atmosphere and food quality good and well presented. If anyone can find anywhere better in this part of the world, I'd like to know about it !!

Room Tip: River view rooms are nicer than ones at the rear, although on this occasion, the views were quite restricted due to the scaffolding.

Our grateful thanks for your lovely compliments, and the fact we gave good value-for-money in light of the essential works on the hotel facade. Our staff always do their utmost to provide excellent service, and long may it continue! We look forward to seeing you again another time. Best wishes.
