Booked through info office. We're taken by small coach. Tour guide very interesting and informative. Had attended college himself years ago so knew his stuff.

“Outstanding tour, outstanding tour guide”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 June 2014

I can honestly say that every minute of this tour was highly enjoyable. It's always extra-special when the place you're visiting is a living institution and this certainly is. Our guide was a retired naval officer (Peter) who knew every nut and bolt of the place. His specialist knowledge was peppered with so many anecdotes that I came out feeling I really understood how Dartmouth works, its past and present. There are three main venues to visit - the dining room ('Gun room'), the quarter-deck (large hall) and the chapel and as you go between them down the acres of corridor you see cadets and staff going about their business. There are quite a few stairs but most have handrails and the tour is organised so that you don't feel rushed. Go and enjoy!

“Dartmouth Royal Naval College”

I enjoyed our visit we came as part of an organised trip. And although the guides were informative I did feel they were having a few laughs at our expense. Being an elderly group I felt they thought we were a load of old codgers, which we certainly are not. A few in jokes were banded about which I clicked onto. But apart from that we all really enjoyed our trip & would definitely recommend it.

This was among the best visits I have enjoyed. There is such a rich history within the walls and so much to be impressed with about our history.
The guides were very knowledgeable and clear

“Britannia Royal Naval College”

Having admired the building on the numerous occasions we have visited Dartmouth, it was great to find out that we could visit the college. As other reviewers have said you are picked up from the Tourist information office and taken to the college. There are security checks so remember to take photo id with you when you book and again on the day you visit. The volunteers who conduct the tours are very knowledgeable about the history of the naval college and the building it self. Once at the college the guide explains all about the buildings current use. When we visited (Easter 2014) the naval officers were on leave so it was very quiet. I would imagine that if you visited during the term you would get a different perspective. The inside of the building is fantastic. The chapel spectacular with its marble and beautiful stain glass. The floors and corridors retain their original tiles and flooring. The Quarterdeck was a beautiful part of the building with some lovely rope work on display. There are some fabulous paintings on the walls. The final area visited was the dining room, very impressive and we could imagine how it would look when it was dressed for a formal occasion. The guide had lots of little stories about things that had gone on at the college, this added to the overall tour and made it very human.
