Review of Coleton Fishacre

We were staying at Kingswear and took the coastal path to the property. Although the path is steep in places it is well worth it for some spectacular views. We arrived at Coleton Fishacre at lunch time to find the restaurant crowded but serving a good selection of light meals and crab sandwiches. For the family that built the London Savoy they did very well in building this wonderful property. The NT had been working over the winter and more rooms are now open including the kitchens and servants hall. We had April showers (and hail) during our visit so did not spend much time exploring the grounds. If you dont fancy the coastal path, the house can be reached easily by car from the Torbay or South Hams.

The grounds are lovely, but do be aware that there are lots of ups and downs. Great views of the sea and coastline as well as lovely shrubs and trees. The house is quite different, but does give a great insight into the family who lived there. For National Trust members, it is well worth going. For others, it is quite pricey,

What an amazing place - it feels like you have just stepped back in time to the 1930's and the family have just popped out for a moment. The rooms are exquisite and so authentic and it is great to see behing the scenes too. The guide were infirmative and we loved the 'hands on room' where you could try items from the period. My teenagers voted this the best place in our Devon holidays so good for all ages. Even the steep walk up to the overflow car park after our visit didn't dampen our spirits!

If only we could be tenants. It is a glorious setting and the house makes the most of it. Great gardens too.

A beautiful house with fantastic art deco furnishings offering an insight into the lives of the D'Oyly Carte family. A huge and imaculate garden with stupendous views over the sea.
