Don't let the narrow road with passing places deter you
As your tour of the House progresses it gets better and better
Money built this house and it shows
The gardens are also excellent though strenuous for the infirm if you go to the bay's edge
Time your visit to the Café as the queue can be long at busy times
On my list for a second visit

“operatic sensation”

The drive here is via tortuous narrow lanes.Your fingers are often crossed hoping you don't meet another car.The white knuckle ride is worth it though as this location is beautiful. Coleton is a wonderful jazz age Deco house.I wish the Trust would let me live there haha. The beauty of the building is backed up by lovely grounds. With endless exploring possibilities. The cafe is very good I had a yummy hommity pie.

Hi Joseph, thank you for your review of your recent visit to Coleton Fishacre. I'm sorry that you found the lanes a white knuckle experience (they are classic Devon lanes!) but pleased to see that didn't mar your time at Coleton. It looks like you enjoyed everything about it. I'm sorry we can't let you live here - but did you know that there are holiday cottages here? They are lovely, and have exclusive access to the gardens in the evening - check out the website for more information.

“Fabulous”

What a beautiful house, great art deco style & contents, it wasnt 'stuffy' at all and really interesting. The gardens were also a delight, well worth a visit.

“Well worth a visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2014

The house alone is worth it - beautiful piece of architecture, largely untouched since the 1920s. The NT have done a good job of refurnishing the interior - a lot of it is original, some of it has been made to order and some of it is not original but faithful to the period. The guides throughout the house were great - very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, I had a feeling the handout could have been more helpful with the history of the place and people. We only really pieced together the whole story by reading every card in every room and then asking questions to fill in the blanks. The gardens are superb and the guide again was very helpful, but was a stand in so unfortunately did not know the name of some of the plants.

Hello, thank you for your review of Coleton Fishacre, I'm so pleased to see how much you enjoyed your visit, and that the team were so helpful and knowledgeable. We try to find a balance with the information sheets between giving enough information and not overloading visitors, as people like to find things out in their own way. But I will certainly pass on your feedback.
