“Cosy and Friendly”
Reviewed 5 April 2014 via mobile

We stumbled across this pub in the backstreets of Dartmouth, we were made to feel welcome and were offered a bowl of water for our dog. The food was reasonably priced, home made and most importantly delicious!!

We would be more than happy to visit again were we in the area and would recommend for anyone with a dog in tow who wants a good meal.

“Updated menu very enticing !”
Reviewed 25 March 2014

To regular readers of our reviews it must be obvious that this is our favourite pub in Dartmouth, for a lunch we always enjoy, but now we are faced with many more choices, in which to indulge, and it is obvious that on our next visit we will be sampling other dishes. Even though we do have our favourite.

What is good is that the pizzas offer two bases, for those with a gluten intolerance, there is a different base and you can choose a different cheese, and now with all the new toppings, one is spoilt for choice, whatever your taste and diet requirements.

This pub offers tasty food at good value and we are both bewildered by the previous review, as our portions and those of other eaters have always been generous. I can only hope that he had the courtesy to mention the fact to someone before making such a review.

It has always been our policy when reviewing anywhere, we mention our concerns to an owner or staff before making a negative comment, there are no pirates in the Dartmouth Arms, only the ghosts of customers past !

You will not be disappointed, whatever your choice, the new owners offer good bar food at reasonable prices in congenial surroundings, and we look forward to our future visits,

“Watch out for pirates”
Reviewed 17 March 2014 via mobile

Although you don't risk being captured in Dartmouth perhaps some pubs and restaurants see you as a captive audience. Sadly this was my experience last weekend. Perhaps the early spring sunshine made me feel light headed but when I entered the DA in early afternoon I failed to realise the small number of diners (2) when other pubs I had walked past were busy. I expect pubs to make a living and make a profit on food, fine.
Sorry but a small slice of cheese, bread roll, lettuce and a quarter of a small tomato plus pickle served in an eye bath is not a ploughman's lunch. Not an £8 one anyway. Poor.

“Great value lunch-under new ownership”
Reviewed 11 March 2014

I have been a regular of this old riverside pub for over 25 years and the previous owner has just retired and there are new owners and staff. However lunch last week was as good as previously-sausage chips and salad-great value for money lunch, friendly service and a pub with genuine character.

“All round fab time had by all!”
Reviewed 24 February 2014

Whilst revisiting our favourite town in the South-West, we decided to return to our all time favourite pub The Dartmouth Arms. We were a little apprehensive as we had heard the long standing owner had recently sold, but to our shear delight not much had changed. The food was to a high standard with even better service, the selection of wines was to my wife's approval, the children were impressed with the nachos and sizzling fajitas and I enjoyed sipping a pint of Doom Bar by the fire. We returned three times during our short stay and were continually looked after by the pleasant staff, we shall be returning at Easter!
