This town of Dartmouth enjoys a wonderful river setting close to the mouth of the Dart as it joins the English Channel. With the pretty little Boat Float and attractive Royal Gardens, there is much to enjoy here. Interestingly, there is a railway station on the quayside, but the railway never got to town. Their Lordships of the Admiralty stopped GWR from bridging the Dart up nearby Dittisham as they felt it might interfere with their tall-masted ships of the line. The whole harbour bustles from dawn to dusk and beyond with water craft of all sizes, and many enjoyable voyages can be taken from this harbour.
