I booked a room with townstal farmhouse four weeks ago for an important event i was attending, at the time i spoke to a very pleasant gentleman and i was explicitly told that the room was booked and all i had to do was turn up on the day.
i then received a voicemail two days before the event which informed me that my room booking had been cancelled as i had not confirmed the booking. I called the farmhouse, naturally a little irritated, to find out that not only had my booking been cancelled but the room had already been rebooked. The vociferous woman i spoke to was utterly disinterested with the predicament the farmhouse had put me in, she ignored my statement that i had been told that no further action was required of me and told me i was ignorant of hotel booking procedures for not implicitly knowing to confirm my booking again.
Moreover she then became irate over the phone and proceeded to threaten me before hanging up on the phone.
To say the least i have absolutely no intention of attempting to book a room here again and would thoroughly recommend any friend to not use this B and B.
I have now booked a room at Stoke Lodge Hotel who seem much more pleasant.

We dropped by without reservation and was met with the warmest of welcomes by Jean. After showing us to our room (the last available one), Jean asked us about our stay in Dartmouth and went on to provide recommendations and advice which was very helpful (providing maps). Breakfast was excellent and a there was a big choice. The atmosphere was very relaxed and guests chatted and mingled together. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back if we were ever in Dartmouth again. Jean even accommodated our random request of a take-out cream tea for the journey!

We found the booking process for the Townstal Farmhouse Hotel to be easy and when we arrived there, a member of the family (Jean) was waiting there to meet us and check us in. They offered a warm welcome. We found the passageways in the farmhouse to be too narrow but when we got to our room (Number 6), the room was clean and decorated with real paintings, not prints. The beds were comfortable and we had a choice of a bath or a shower (the shower is over the bath) which was ideal for children who prefer to bath. The breakfast was well cooked but there was a second overflow room for breakfast and when they became busy, the service was a little slow. My husband said that it was one of the best guest houses he'd stayed in! However, we found that walking back up the hill from Dartmouth town centre was rather hot in the summer and taking the bus was a better option. Great experience overall!

Room Tip: Choose a room next to the circular staircase as you don't need to negotiate the narrow passage u...

Stayed 2 nights over Bank Holiday. Met by Jean who was very welcoming. Given lots of details about how to get to town & told about buses & taxis charge about £4. Very handy if you can't face an up hill walk. We took the bus & it dropped us right outside. The room was spotless & slept like a baby. Breakfast was very relaxed. Good quality food, service & even a little chat by the owner - nice touch.
Would stay again without hesitation.

Room Tip: We stayed in the main house, quiet.

The owners were very helpful and friendly and so were the other staff. The location was good, and the walk into dartmouth will keep you fit and isn't that bad for a healthy person or after a few drinks.
Our room was ok, there had been a bit of problems with the plumbing which left a smell but was bearable. The bed was super soft and wasn't our taste.
Breakfast was ok and there was a good choose on the menu.
All in all its was a nice stay but was let down by the bed and smell of the room.

Spotlessly clean,Nigel & Jean make you feel very welcome. The breakfast is lovely & there is more toast coffee if you want more. The hill is a bit steep, we stayed for two nights & enjoyed a wonderful bank holiday week-end. If we return to Dartmouth we will stay here again.

It was a last minute booking as everywhere was fully booked over Easter. We only needed to stay one night and it was fine.

We had a pleasant greeting from a friendly girl who showed us to our motel like room.

It was clean and the beds were comfy. The room just lacked any character in a beautiful old farm house.

The breakfast was ok - all freshly made.

The price of our room was £95 and it was a lot of money for the overall experience.

Dogs are welcome here.
