Owner description: Take this extraordinary glimpse into the beloved holiday home of the famous and much-loved author Agatha Christie and her family. The relaxed and atmospheric house is set in the 1950s, and contains many of the family's collections, including archaeology, Tunbridgeware, silver, botanical china and books. Outside you can explore the large and romantic woodland garden, with a restored vinery, wild edges and rare plantings, which drifts down the hillside towards the sparkling Dart estuary.

“Interesting place, great views, good afternoon tea.”

PARKING - not much on site, so if there is none available (make sure your phone up in advance to get booked in), you have to use the Park and Ride, or have a long long walk.
CAFE - Lovely afternoon tea. Good selection of scones and plenty of cream and jam. Staff were friendly and the cafe area was clean and partly covered.
GARDENS - A really interesting walk around, going up and down the hillside. The board house is a must. Great views of the river. Not suitable for people with walking difficulties.
HOUSE - don't take in large rucksacks, as you be asked to leave the in one of the lockers. If it's small enough, you can carry it in your hand, just not on your back. Some really investing rooms and the book they give you go around with adds value. Learnt quite a lot. Try and find the frog.

“Magic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 October 2013

Loved it loved it loved it !!!! Whether you approach Greenway by Ferry, foot or car the walk through the gardens to the house itself is beautiful with glades, trees, shrubburies and ornamental features together with fabulous views of the River Dart.
On our latest visit we didn't realise if you went by car you needed to book a car parking space and as it was our last day in Devon we were momentarilly disapointed that our visit would need to be postponed. However a very helpful NT gentleman found that because they had a 'no show' that morning - we could have their space..hooray! The walk down to the house was beautiful but for anyone who required it - there was a little 'buggy' providing free rides up and back from the house. The house itself is every Agatha Christie fans dream. So much of her personal and family life is there for sharing with very knowledgeable NT staff there to bring it all alive. You are also provided with a comprehensive folder and information in each room enabling you to wander round at your own pace, taking in all the many photos and collections on show.
We had a very lovely day and look forward to a return visit - but this time we will book the car in beforehand !

“Get down to the boathouse if you possibly can”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 October 2013

First the house. Plenty to see and lots of additional information in each room to add to the excellent brochure you are given on entry. Guides very knowledgeable. AC apparently didn't like central ceiling lighting so the ceilings in the drawing room and dining room look a bit bare. Perfect views of the Dart through the trees. Not really the weather for looking at the gardens but they are extensive. BUT, if you possibly can, go down to the boathouse on the water's edge for virtual silence which is so hard to find these days. The occasional passing tourist boat does not seem to spoil this. Again, very knowledgeable guide on the day we were there, particularly in relation to the 200 year old sea/river water plunge pool (I'm not kidding!). Oddly, we found walking back up again rather easier than the walk down so don't be put off - it's certainly worth the effort. Various ways to get to the house. If going by car, you must book; it's not worth taking a chance. If you are not National Trust, entrance fee is £11 though there are concessions.

“Gorilla hunt plus nice scone”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 October 2013 via mobile

Went to visit the gorilla with my two boys and the staff were ever so helpful and friendly. Plus the scone and biscuit we tucked away were delicious.

Also lovely walk from car park to entrance especially in autumn.
