We love Dartmouth. Away from the maddening crowd; individual shops; great variety of art; excellent library with a cinema/theatre above it (Flavels). The come a is the only one I know of where you can take in your glass of wine! And food wise plenty of choice from the upscale restaurant of Mitch Tonks (the Seahorse) to good value fish and chips and fast food outlets. Great little pubs with character to suit all types. So, where to stay for a few days? Nowhere better than Bayards Cove where the host Charlie will give you a very nice welcome. We'll appointed rooms and serving great breakfast with light meals at other times including Tapas. Location is splendid right by the lower ferry. Parking is always a problem in Dartmouth; in the spring and summer use the park and ride. Once in the town everything is just a short walk. In the winter there is usually room in the central car park. We have stayed a few times and will be back for the New Year.

My wife and I (and our Labrador) stayed in the historic Drake suite for 2 nights - it was like travelling back 500 years. Magic! The management and staff, especially Lottie, couldn't have been more attentive and helpful. The ambience, decor, food and people were brilliant. It's definitely worth a visit when next you're in Dartmouth.

We arrived on Thursday 31st October and all seemed great with the rooms (Nelson Suite. Went out after breakfast (9.30 am 'ish) and spent a great day sightseeing the local area, returning to the Inn at around 2.45pm. Room had not been cleaned but we were not too concerned (even though it states that they will be cleaned each morning). Ran out of shower gel and after three requests over the next day, still no shower gel! Eventually got a response on the fourth time of asking, only to find that we had been provided with Shampoo?? Not very good..... Bathroom basin has quite a few chips in the porcelain and shower surround has been bodged with sealant quite badly. Ceiling fan in bathroom could do with a good clean as pretty much full with dust. We were going to talk these things through with the owners (after being advised by the very pleasant and capable young lady who provided us great service, but unfortunately shampoo instead of shower gel) that she would speak to them about this lack of service, however they were not around when we booked out. For £150 per night we would expect much better levels of service, but this would not stop us from staying at the Inn again.

Welcoming people, warm surroundings (important now the weather has turned wintry), comfortable room and a really good breakfast. All in a fabulous location. What more can you ask for. The owners of this "Inn with rooms" have captured a spirit of warmth while making it a very cool place to stay.

I stayed at the hotel on the eve of my wedding in August. I stayed in the Drake suite with my three bridesmaids. The suite is really designed for two adults and two kids (due to small room with bunk). However, as we were only staying for one night it was manageable. If I were to be staying with my family, for longer than a night, I would maybe be concerned whether there would be enough storage.

When we arrived Charlie and his wife were very welcoming, and made sure that our request for a full length mirror was seen too. We decided to eat in the restaurant at night. We had tapas which was absolutely amazing! We also had a jug of Sangria. We had plenty to eat and it only came to £18 each which I thought was excellent value. My only concern on the night were that the owners were no where to be seen, and I felt the young staff, although there were plenty of them, we're not very attentive, and seemed to be standing around gossiping rather than seeing to our table.

I slept through until about 5am before being rudely awoken by seagulls and perhaps wedding nerves! It was very hot in the room so there was no choice but to have the window open so seagulls were inevitable. There was a fan provided and in an old building I guess there's not much else they can do about the heat.

The following day we enjoyed a truly exquisite breakfast, worthy of any bride to be. We had all opted for the continental breakfast when asked to choose on the previous night, however, Charlie also offered us cooked food when we came down the next morning. Due to the special occasion, we were given Buck's Fizz, on the house! The variety and taste of the breakfast was second to none. If in Dartmouth again I would definitely recommend eating here.

We ran out of time on the wedding morning so we had no choice but to abandon our belongings at the hotel. The hotel were very understanding and even allowed us a late checkout.

Overall, I would definitely return to stay at the hotel for a special anniversary. Dartmouth is beautiful and the owners and food at the hotel were fab. The room was cosy and spotlessly clean.

We had just one night here but would certainly return if in the area. On arrival, we were warmly welcomed by Macjek (Polish name, so apologies if mis-spelled) who carried bags from the car outside to our room on the top floor. We had a very comfortable night's sleep and a very good breakfast the next morning, which was served with a smile by Lottie. Both the staff we met were very efficient and extremely pleasant -a good advertisement for Bayard's Cove Inn.
We would certainly stay here again, and hope to be there on a night when tapas is served.
