When I think back to what I normally spend on a Chinese meal at a restaurant, the Buffet City was a revelation and showed that you can still find great Chinese food at bargain prices. You have to go the length of Exeter's main shopping street, heading West and cross over North and South street before dipping down to find an alleyway on your left which leads to Buffet City. The building was previously St George's Market and has been converted to give a large, light and airy eating area. On arrival, you have to buy a drink to take advantage of the special price buffet. It is a excellent deal as for around £6.50 you can eat as much as you want to with clean plates and cutlery being provided each time you want to try something else. This is not a three choice wonder either, the buffet areas have a great selection of Chinese, curries and different rice dishes plus there is also a choice of desserts including fresh fruit slices in the chiller. The whole operation is slick and efficient and while you are not going to see a memorable decor, you are going to get a lovely meal at an unbelievable price. Three generations of the family dined together and not one word of complaint was heard. Expect to put on a little weight unless you have amazing constraint.
