We stay here at least twice a year to visit family and yes it is dated and is need of a complete overhaul but linen is clean and food excellent and a good pub atmosphere.
Also the outside decor could do with a comple face lift

Room Tip: They are all pretty much the same

The rooms and public areas of the hotel are dated and could do with renovating. However this is made up for by the excellent value for money - £40 - for a double room with breakfast. The staff were helpful and friendly. The quality of the food was excellent. Unfortunately the radiator in our room was hot and we could find no way to turn it off. The bathroom (which actually had a bath) was in need of renovation, but the shower was very good - being powerful and hot at all times during our 4-day stay.

The location - within a 5 minute drive of junction 30 of the M5 is very convenient for the city of Exeter (the park and ride bus stops opposite the hotel).

Despite the fact that we slept with the window open (due to the hot radiator) we were undisturbed by traffic noise. We would certainly return.

You get what you pay for. Reception had to be called by phone, but they had to collect their own cup of tea from the kitchen. Room is tired and needs renovating. I stayed in it 4 years ago and it has not been done since then. Hot tap did not work, and no chair or stool for wife to preen herself. However the pub side was excellent although the menu was short but the food was good. Tip, don't order drinks from table as they take to long. Go to the bar yourself.

If you want a meal in an average, dated pub, coupled with an unhelpful waitress who was not keen to have us seated where WE wanted with space and light to cater for a disabled member, then you that's what you get here. Lacking in atmosphere and cleanliness. However the chef was cheerful and the food was fine but the rest of the staff have a 'can't be bothered attitude'.

Stayed for 2 nights whilst visiting a friend in Exeter. Picked this B&B for the location and that it has the carvery on site.

Bathroom needs re-furb asap and a good clean! The mix and match tiles had orange grout where it had consistently not been cleaned. Mix and match colours of the bathroom suite too, think I had turquoise, white and green. The shower head was falling off and as a result the water was spraying everywhere. Ended up just taking the shower head off its holder and rinsing myself down with it! Oh and the washbasin is in the bedroom, not the bathroom. I have photos of the bathroom if anyone wants to see them.

The bed was really comfy and there is a nice big flat screen tv in the room. Plenty of complimentary tea & coffee in the basket. Noisy in the corridors at night.

They have obviously started to refurb this place but it really needs to be done quicker. It reminded me of Crossroads.

Cooked breakfast was fab, especially the bacon.

Why didn't I complain? Because there was no-one there when I checked out, popped my key back in a hole in the counter. All lights were off!

We have been several times lately for a carvery. Very polite staff, helpful and a good honest roast. Plenty of different meats to choose from (And a few Veggie alternatives which my son says was very nice) and stacks of nice looking, not overcooked veg. Several different gravies including Vegetarian and Gluten free. They will even plate up carvery seperately for you as 'Gluten free' if you ask them to make sure its not contaminated with Yorkshire puds etc. Fairly clean although a bit of 'sticky table' syndrome and the toilets could do with a complete deep clean and overhaul as very manky around edges, skirtings etc although perfectly usable. Its not the best place or the most,up to date, or brand spanking new furnishings etc - and the wall art.pictures leaves something to be desired........ But if you want a standard well cooked roast on a Sunday and no need to book-just turn up-then it fits the bill. And no washing up either! We will definitely go again.

i haven't stayed at the hotel and i hope the reviews i read were by jealous competitors, but the carvery we had on sunday 5-2-12 was the best i have ever had. There was even individual gravey for different meats. the only fault I could make was there being too much veg; to choose from and i could hardly walk out of the door

. The place was heaving and we were lucky not to have to wait too long for a table, as we hadn't booked . Cant wait to come again.
