“Average hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 December 2013 via mobile

Great location. Functional room and basic breakfast.
This hotel has quite a budget feel to it- more a Travellodge than hotel. For the prices they charge it should really be better.
Great pub at the end of the car park for food and drink though.

Thank you for taking the time to share your personal experience on Tripadvisor.
I am concerned that you find our Hotel ‘average’ and it would be great to hear your reasons on areas you feel we could improve on.

We are a limited service Hotel that offers a good night’s sleep, free breakfast, free WIFI and plenty of free car parking. Holiday Inn Express, is the sister brand of the full service Holiday Inn however our guest services team are always on hand to help or assist to meet our guests requirements and offer alternatives if we are unable to do so.
I am pleased you took advantage of our location which proves very popular with our guests as we are so close to the M5.

Kind Regards

Excellent Hotel easy to locate and convenient for M5, Exeter City and the South Devon Coast. Good parking facilities on a level site. Friendly and efficient staff made our stay a pleasure. Continental breakfast in hotel was very good.
Pub/Restaurant on site provided good reasonably priced meals in a friendly atmosphere.
Have stayed here before several times and the high standards have been maintained.

We stayed here on the 30th of November 2013 for a charity event down the road.

The rooms are lovely, clean, modern and comfortable. We had a double bed and a fold out sofa. LCD TV with working free view, hair dryer which I wasn't expecting and coffee making facilitates.

You get free wifi codes.

I have no complaints about the room except the lack of plug sockets in convenient places. I.e there are no sockets by the bedside tables for charging phones and when I was getting ready for the charity event, despite having a full length mirror which was great, there were no sockets within an accessible distance for me to straighten my hair in front of the mirror.

This meant a little dance combo of me straightening my hair then jumping back in front of the mirror to see what other part needed straightening. Back n forth.

We needed an iron and ironing board which we were given to use free of charge.

My only issue was breakfast. The orange juice is really watered down, which is really disappointing when needing the fresh pick me up from the booze the night before. I see this is a common complaint and from just a brief look someone one dec 2012 stated the exact same issue but yet nothing has changed.

Breakfast is pretty poor, soggy scrambled egg which has no flavour. Sausages were fine but we're doused in white pepper. Don't expect to get mushrooms or bacon.

Cooked breakfast is just sausages, scrambled eggs and beans.

Room Tip: Visit the pub across the car park to see if their breakfast is any better.

Thank you for taking the time to share you experience with the Holiday Inn Express Exeter on Tripadvisor.
It is great to read you enjoyed your night’s stay with us and you found our facilities met your expectations.
Our free Express Start breakfast was expanded a couple of years ago adding the items of Sausage, Scrambled egg and baked beans to our continental range. I am disappointed your experience was not a positive one; I can assure you we take all feedback from our guests constructively and check our products on a daily basis. I will be sharing your comments with the team to ensure the orange juice is checked more regularly throughout the service times to ensure it is not running low.
Following out guests’ feedback, we are currently purchasing extension leads for our bedrooms as we are aware the plug sockets are placed away from the mirror which can cause an inconvenience to our guests.
I am very pleased you had a good nights sleep and hope to welcome you back to our Hotel in the very near future.
Kind Regards

We stayed here whilst looking at uni for my son. ~With "Express" in the name i expected it to be a hotel that felt like everything was supposed to be rushed and hurried - How wrong i was !
The reception staff were calm and exceptional helpful. I am not going to go into every single detail as some people do but i will say i wouldnt hesitate to stay again if my son gets a place at the uni and finally about the food - it is absolutely fine, i was a bit doubtful by the description but thought heyho we are not a starving nation so it will b fine. dont take notice of what some others have said as it was better than where we stayed in Canterbury.

Not a bad Holiday Inn, the usual affair set close to the M5, the pub that's set in the grounds is convenient if your not fussed about going in to town, the food is okay and serves some nice ales. Would visit again but only on business, probably wouldn't take my wife and family unless on a budget.

We had a one night stay here for a family birthday in the area. The hotel is very conveniently located near J29 of the M5. The rooms (especially on the second floor at the back) were quiet, clean and spacious enough, with a very comfortable bed.
The staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Breakfast was no more than OK - sausage, scrambled egg and beans, dry croissants and a selection of cereals being about the sum total. Served from a cramped alcove to the main dining area means there's a pretty good chance of bumping into someone and leaving your scrambled egg on the floor. This seems to be the way breakfast is served at the budget end of the business hotel line, though.
If I could have given this place 3.5 stars, I would - it's better than "average", but not "very good".

Room Tip: Odd-numbered rooms on the second floor will be quietest

It is great to receive feedback from our guests to enable us to continue improving our service and product delivery, thank you for taking the time to do this.
Our Free Express Start breakfast was introduced a few years ago, to include three hot options alongside the original continental choices; this was done after much research involving our guests. I am sorry to read that the standard of our breakfast did not meet your expectation and will be sure to share your comments with our team to ensure that high quality of breakfast is consistent. We are aware our breakfast area can become very busy during peak times and we do plan our staffing levels according to the business
Thank you for your kind words regarding the staff and our bedrooms; I will share all of your comments with the rest of the team.
Kind Regards

I stayed overnight on business. The hotel is very close to J29 of the M5; so this is very good if you are using it as a stop off enroute to/from the SW. The room was clean and had everything I needed. The breakfast was OK but I stayed well away from the cooked food because it looked horrendous. The reception staff were polite and efficient, so it was very easy to check-in and check-out. Not as good as a Premiere Inn but it did what I needed.

Thank you for taking your time to share feedback on here on Tripadvisor.

It is great to hear that you took advantage of our close proximity to the M5, we do find ourselves a very popular spot for travellers to stop over on their journey.

Our Free Express Start breakfast does include 3 hot options of sausage, scrambled egg and baked beans, which has proved popular with our guests. Although I am sorry to hear that these were not up to your expectations, I am pleased that you took advantage of our continental range.

Thank you so much for your positive comments about our staff being polite and efficient, I will be sure to share these comments with the team.
