“Excellent location”
Reviewed 9 February 2014 via mobile

Stayed here for the weekend and can't fault it. Food excellent and plenty of choice. The staff were excellent, check in and out was quick. The location is perfect, right near the cathedral. If I'm going to be very picky our room could have done with lick of paint. Will certainly stay here again. Thanks for a nice weekend!!

Very disappointed to have driven through torrential rain for three hours to arrive at the hotel and be turned away from an empty restaurant at 7.30pm as they had a function on. I ended up having to go elsewhere for a meal to avoid a forty minute wait to sit in an empty restaurant.

The hotel itself on the surface appears ok but on further inspection is dated and flawed. My room came with an oil filled radiator in it as the windows were very draughty and the built in air conditioning/heating was not working. Given the storms outside the draughty windows were very noisy and as such did not provide a great nights sleep.

Needless to say I will not be rushing back.

Dear Guest
Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay. I am so sorry to hear you experienced a very long journey with exceptionally bad weather prior to arriving at the hotel.
I am disappointed and surprised to learn that the team were not more accommodating when your arrived at the restaurant. On the night in question, when you arrived at the restaurant we were just about to serve a large dinner for over 100 guests in the main function suite, so were restricting 'non-reserved' bookings for a 30 minute period, to ensure that any diners did not experience delays throughout their meal. They are confident that they presented other eating alternatives including bar food or room service for the duration of the time that the restaurant was restricted; but I am most sorry if this did not happen and for your bovious disappointment.
I am also sorry if you found the windows to be noisy in the extreme stormy weather; I will certainly investigate what can be done to improve this.
We are currently upgrading the heating and air conditioning system, so added oil filled radiators to the rooms so guests could increase their heating should they wish. The works will be completed in the next two weeks which will facilitiate full heating and air conditioning throughout the hotel.
Despite your initial experience we hope we are able to welcome you back to the hotel.
Kind regards Fiona Darde

Booked 3 of the top quality rooms a few days ago for a friends birthday treat. The hotel is wonderful, very modern and stylish in a great location. The food was top quality at both breakfast and in the evening, with great restaurant staff. The reception staff were quite grumpy and not particularly friendly.
Our rooms were advertised as providing us with bathrobes, slippers, complimentary newspapers, soft drinks and snacks. Sadly some of the slippers were missing, along with a hair dryer. I phoned reception which took several minutes and calls before anyone answered. The member of staff did deliver them to the room quickly and was very friendly. After questioning where the free snacks were we we're informed there was a bar of chocolate.......a small bar for 2 people is not quite what we were expecting but we were supplied with crisps when I questioned this.
The pool wasn't quite as the photo implied but it was a welcome relieve after a day spent shopping.
I would like to return to this hotel again and hope that the finishing touches will be improved upon next time to turn this 4 star rating into a 5!

Dear Shauna
Thank you for your review and positive feedback regarding the hotel's decor, leisure facilities and our location. I was so pleased to learn that your enjoyed the food and service at breakfast and dinner.
I am unsure where our privilege rooms are advertised to include snacks, but would welcome further information on this point, so we are able to make the necessary correction. Our Privilege rooms should have slippers, gowns, Nespresso coffee machines and soft drinks mini bar as standard items. I am sorry if some slippers and a hairdrier were missing from one of your rooms on arrival, but pleased to learn that this was addressed promptly - along with some snacks!
I will certainly share your feedback with the team to ensure that we can continue to make improvements to our service. We hope to welcome you back soon.
Kind regards Fiona Darde

Stayed here for two wonderful nights in this perfect hotel. Beautiful reception area, warm open fires and equally warm reception staff. We stayed in the Berkley Suite a beautiful suite of rooms with plenty of space to relax and kick back. The breakfast was of great variety, nice and fresh in a pleasant surrounding. Would recommend this quality hotel. Only slight irritation was £10 a night to park!

Room Tip: Recommend Berkley Suite although on a street that students coming back Saturday night may disturb

Me and my husband stayed for one night on the 1st of February,on arrival I was shocked to see that even guests have to pay £10 for the parking? I can understand non guests having to pay and this issues is easily monitored as they have a barrier entrance, the hotel itself was very nice with modern features mixed with older features and the reception staff were very polite and professional.
We booked at reception for an evening meal which was included when we booked but when we got to the restaurant we were not on the list ( good job the restaurant was not busy) the staff at the restaurant were also very lovely, polite and professional and all looked very smart in there uniforms, the food was ok I had the parfait to start which had one piece of bread that was rock hard, but my main meal was very nice in comparison.
The room was clean and tidy ,we upgraded to privilege when we booked So had cold drinks in the room but were not offered the paper that was with the package.
Breakfast was very nice with yet again the staff making up for any minor faults you may of had.
The hotel was hosting a wedding fare which we were not told about when we booked, the coming and going I could hear from about 7:30am and also they were all offered free parking??? Staff yet again were good when we checked out having to amend our bill as we were charged for evening meal that was included in our booking we left hoping that we paid for what we had but didn't really have the gusto to stay as people were all over the reception regarding the wedding fare.

Dear Mrs Shakey
Thank you for review following your recent stay with us; I am pleased that your enjoyed your break and found the staff friendly.
Thank you for bring to my attention the slight shortfalls in quality and service which you experienced at dinner; I'll share these with the relevant department manager so they can improve their processes going forward. We make a small charge for car parking as we are the only hotel in the heart of the city with ample, secure car parking. By charging seperately for car parking our guests can compare our bedroom rates with the other hotels more easily.
We hope to welcome you back in the near future.
