Now our younger son is at Exeter University we anticipate many stays in this lovely city. Originally we had planned to stay at another (much more expensive) hotel nearby, but were unable to secure a booking at fairly short notice, so we stayed at The White Hart instead - and we now hope to stay there whenever we are in Exeter - it is unbeatable value!
So much is included for the price - free on-site parking (probably unique in Exeter city centre), free wi-fi, free breakfast and a discount on any other meals. Our son joined us for dinner in the evening and enjoyed it so much that he returned for breakfast the next morning (which only cost us just over £4 for him) - and he is planning to eat there again as it is within his student budget!
The staff are all very friendly and the building is an interesting mix of historic (most of the public rooms) and fairly modern (the bedrooms and breakfast room), The bedrooms are large and adequately furnished with spacious en-suite bathrooms.
The food is generally good pub standard food and is reasonably priced (the only dish I wouldn't recommend is the so-called chef's special of salmon in a hot pepper sauce - the sauce was actually more reminiscent of tepid tomatoes - but everything else was brilliant). Good beers too - and the most reasonably priced bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc I have ever found in a restaurant (it was delicious too!). Breakfast is incredibly generous - we didn't need to eat again until late afternoon.
We had obviously been very lucky to book in at short notice, because when we tried to do this again in February they were (understandably) fully booked so we had to stay somewhere more expensive which we didn't like as much (though we did eat at the White Hart in the evening!)- we will book further in advance in future.

Stayed here for one night as a stopover on the way to Cornwall. The hotel includes free wifi and free car parking. This included the day we arrived and the next day, which allowed us to explore the city after we checked out. Our room was big and clean with a good powerful shower. We also had a few drinks in the pub attached, which was full of character. Another bonus was the complimentary breakfast. This included cereal and toast and can also choose from cooked items off the menu, which was a pleasant surprise. The hotel is also a 3 minute walk to the shops. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in Exeter.

Stayed here on business in a single room. Very comfortable room and bed and nice and warm considering the weather outside. Good tv and tea and coffee making facilities. Good clean modern bathroom. Only stayed one night with a late check inn so only did breakfast, which was very nice and plenty of choice but it did take a while for the cooked breakfast to come out with only 1 waitresses one before 7.30. Would recomend and would stay here again

i stayed here for the weekend with friends. The staff were warm and friendly, The food was great, bonus with a free patrons car park and very close to the town. The old part is full of character, ask for a downstairs room or a room in the new part if you suffer with dodgy knees or bad hips, as the stairs are steep and windy as per the age of the building, but don,t let this put you off as the hotel is fab and the breakfast alone is worth the money!! I will be returning very soon with my own family.

Stayed here with friends and family for two nights over the weekend and had a great time. The place has a great atmosphere, the staff are all really friendly and helpful and we felt welcome from the moment we arrived. (When I called to book last year, the lady I spoke to was efficient and warm which made a very good first impression.) We had breakfast both days, which were well cooked and there was a good variety of cereals and options for the cooked breakfasts. The staff in the bar were full of good humour and the bar food we had on Friday night was tasty and served promptly. It's a quirky place with lots of stairs and twists and turns in the original part of the building, whilst the newer part (where I stayed with my family) had clean and comfortable rooms with all we needed for our short stay. I would happily stay here again and would recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Exeter. It's in a great location if you want to explore the city on foot, and if you are using it as a base to venture further afield, it has a car park that is free for patrons. Thank you very much for your hospitality and for making our stay so comfortable. I'm already looking forward to coming back ... and I'm sure my friends would agree.
