“Tiny Portion sizes”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

Visited for a birthday dinner after having previously made several lunch time visits.
What a difference! The ambience was good, the staff friendly, efficient and polite. The food was good too - but the portion sizes were dire and ruined the evening. The guy on the opposite table asked his wife after paying "What now - Take Away?"
An attractive presentation of the meal - but a table spoon size portion of potato, three french beans and one carrot cut into two strips is not good.
It's rather subjective, but this was the first time for years I had three courses - and I still came away hungry.
Even more disappointing was that I said all this at the table (on paying) and emailed the restaurant - but no comments!
Lunch is the better option.

“Nice Lunch Stop”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

My wife and I called in here during a tour of the West Country. We parked in the spaces behind the pub as we had come from that direction. Going in the entrance at the back made it difficult to find where the bar or restaurant was. Once found the service was good, the food above average and prices reasonable. One of the tables overlooked a window into the kitchen, quite a novel idea. Atmosphere was pleasant, several local couples having lunch after a trip into Exeter I guess.Would certainly go again.

“Homely food, lovely service”
Reviewed 30 June 2014 via mobile

Went for lunch with my partner and parents recently and sat outside, food was quick, service was excellent and very friendly. Been twice now and the fish and chips is impressive. Reasonable prices. A great place to stop in for lunch on the way through.

“Anniversary meal”
Reviewed 28 June 2014 via mobile

Booked here for an anniversary meal looking forward to having the seafood platter. Sadly this was not to be as the restaurant required notice for this so as to ensure the ingredients could be purchased as required. This was not made clear on their website. However we stayed and chose a table outside as the weather was gorgeous and warm. We took two starters, two steaks (one from each side of the menu), two desserts, a glass of beer, a glass of wine and a large lemonade (couldn't get a cab for love nor money as England game on at 10pm) for just shy of £90. Couldn't fault the view or the food. As we never entered the restaurant (we only walked in to check in) we were not informed of the specials (the board is behind you on the right by the door). Overall a good experience. Would consider returning but Devon has a vast array of country pubs we are still yet to try.
