The gardens are beautiful all year round with plenty to do for the kids with indoor and outdoor play areas, train rides and ice skating. A great day out for all the family.

“Nice gardens, avoid restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 April 2012

Private botanical gardens, currently costing £8 for adults and £6 for children over 3. The gardens are nice, in the grounds of a stately home. There are kids activities: a good playground, a train tour round the gardens (sadly diesel powered - extra charge of about £1.80), and a soft play area.

So that's all good. We didn't notice much scientific information, so I suspect it's more for the families than true botanists.

I got the worst meal I have ever paid for at the restaurant. "Steak and kidney pie" - cold, bitter grey stew with a wedge of cold, stale pastry dropped on top, and cold overcooked vegetables for £9. Kids meals were OK (fish or chicken shapes+chips/faces+beans/peas). Sandwiches were said to be OK but tasting of margarine. Coffee was made by and for people who don't like coffee.

“I LOVE this gardens”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 April 2012

I last went to Bicton as a small child and was very interested to return with my three small children. They loved the train ride through the park, the play areas and the gardens themselves. A really lovely afternoon out.

“Great day out for all the family”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 April 2012

I love these gardens and had a season ticket for 4 years whilst my children were under 10. There is a museum for grandad, flowers for grandma, indoor play area when it rains, outdoor play areas, lovely woodland walks and a train. What a great day out! Top tip - take a towel and walk along the railway track until you get to a little stream where the kids can go paddling!

“Best for families with younger children.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 March 2012

As a family of 4 we've been coming here for years. We always had an annual ticket which was extremely good value compared to alot of other places.
The park is basically full of gorgeous gardens & scenery, a restaurant (serving very expensive food for what you get) but you can take your own picnic. There is an outside & indoor playing area for younger children. There is also a train ride that takes you around the gardens (you pay extra for this).
Whilst it is great for younger children (0-10) it is quite boring for older children (unless they like just walking around gardens, hence why we no longer visit....
