“opening night blues”
Reviewed 30 August 2012

we ate here on their opening night and even allowing for teething problems it left a lot to be desired..food was cold and pricey staff were unsure of the menu and even had to ask us about the wine list..... said they has sold out of the wine we wanted, on the first night???? still we went back again to give it one more try big mistake... food was even colder and the staff were worse, the place looks amazing very stylish and clean lines the pool area looks good too but please get some better waiting staff guys or you will soon be empty chapter, and i.pads for wine lists, what's that all about , will be a long time before we come back or until we hear some better reviews sorry we really wanted to love you......

Room Tip: the rooms look great but we did not stay as the restaurant put us off.

If you expect good service don't even consider this place. Probably the slowest service in the UK!

Food is superb but you wont even get the wine list until after you have finished the main course and the veg turn up minutes after you have taken the last bite of your main!

Despite telling them about this before they still don't seem to get it - Serve the food (and wine) on time and people will enjoy - mess about with the service and people just feel let down very badly. Some of the other guests were putting a brave face on this and pretending that it wasn't an issue - I didn't believe them but the staff were happy to accept this meant the service was good!

If I ever go back I'll start at 4pm and hope to leave by 12!

I have no idea if the hotel is any good - I just wish the restaurant was a seperate listing on tripadvisor.

We stayed at this hotel for our anniversary, and we must say it did not disappoint. Staff were attentive and friendly without any false pretentious nonsense that can be so annoying when staying at some chain hotels. This made us feel very welcome and comfortable. The facilities within the hotel are excellent, with the bar serving very good cocktails and wines. We ate in the restaurant one evening and both agreed the meal was outstanding, I'm still talking about the steak!! The way the hotel has embraced technology is refreshing, this again is done without being intense. the complimentary iPad was a nice touch, enabling you to do everything from search for local attractions to booking a taxi. Having a free minibar was also a welcome addition to the room. ow the rooms are decorated to a very high standard and were very clean. We also found our room 'turned down' in the evenings, a service that other hotels charge for.
So overall I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel, you are sure to enjoy a welcoming and comfortable stay.

I saw this hotel reviewed in the Times Cool Hotel Guide in July and was intrigued. We stayed on 17th/18th August in a lovely, bright, beautifully appointed, double room on the 1st floor. The bed was wonderfully comfortable, We had the use of a complimentary ipad so had all the info for the hotel at our fingertips with access to the internet. There was also a connection to the TV and to the bathroom so you could lie in the bath and relax to music. The lighting was superb – differing levels and 2 excellent reading lights. Complimentary mini bar with exchanges allowed – we don’t drink beer or Chardonnay. There is a Library with a wide range of up to date books for use during your stay. The Table d’hôte menu on Friday was delicious and the service was excellent. Salmon and scrambled eggs and Haddock and scrambled eggs for breakfast were superb. There are delightful gardens with access to the small plunge pool and an excellent spa. The staff were lovely and really made our stay. A huge plus – when we left two items behind, the hotel located both and put them in the post immediately and they arrived the next day – superb service.

This really was perfect, we were attending a wedding at Reed Hall and stayed here for 2 nights, having driven down from Manchester we arrived late and was met almost straight away by a very attentive young chap. His attention to detail was fantastic, would you like a complimentary ipad?, this iw when and where breakfast is, let me show you to your room, this is how you work the cool lighting, here is the free mini bar, this is how you work the media station. Fantastic.
The whole hotel was full of quirky features and attention to detail was superb. All staff we cam e across were young, energetic and professional.

Food was fantastic, and the ipad allowed you to order room service, a wake up call, explore the Exeter and even suggest ideas for runs to go on.

We would 100% recommend this hotel to anyone, whether looking for a relaxing weekend break or just a one night stopover.

Really exceeded expectation!!!!!

Thanks to you all who made this stay fantatsic

We looked forward to the rebirth of the Barcelona and Swire have made an outstanding package for this provincial city. We enjoyed 4 nights with our dog (no extra charge). The young, increasingly competent, staff are motivated by the ever present general manager. They are most polite, cheerful and attentive. This rubs off on the guests, who also respond in a happy family way. There were many young families with children; the hotel and the lovely restaurant were full. The expensive refurbishment has been wisely done. There is a new pool, bar, spa & beauty salon and gym. The machines' screens offer choice of TV, radio, iPod & smart phone docks. The rooms (good beds and furnishings) have 4 choices of lighting ambience and the modern 2 shower choice. So happy to have this very good hotel and restaurant close by to us Plymouthians.

Room Tip: All are now larger, air conditioned and sound proofed. So, no worries.

we had a one night stay in this lovely hotel the staff were very welcoming and attentive the feature room we stayed in was clean comfortable and the mini bar was well stocked we were given a complimentary iPad to use during our stay and the bed was huge and very comfortable and unusually all the staff seemed to be local and spoke in english that you could understand so you didnt have a problem making yourself understood which has been a problen in quite a few hotels we have stayed in we had a three course meal in the modern well designed restaurant and the service and food was excellent rich tasty and very well cooked we really cant fault this hotel and would highly recommend a stay here exeter itself was an excellent mixture of old and new and you could spend days shopping and looking around i would definatly return for longer next time

Room Tip: the feature rooms are a bit more expensive but woth the extra for the space and peacefulness
