I ate here with friends shortly after it opened and i cannot fault a thing. We began with cocktails and were quickly shown to a sofa after confirming our booking. We wernt rushed to the table as you often find in many places, but when we were shown to the table we were swiftly given menus and bread. We had starters which were lovely; my friend and I had oyters and we were pleased to see that they came with all the added extras...salas, tabasco, lemon ect. The main courses were to die for... beautifully cooked fish with the most moorish sauce, and perfectly cooked steak too. Sweets were also faultless. We were then offered coffee and given the choice of staying in the restaurant of mving into the lounge, which we did. There was a lovely atmosphere throughout which emphasised how lovely this place is.

A late minute trip to Exeter with my partner, friendly on the phone when I booked. Very beautiful old Victorian building, which is a lovely contrast to the very modern and stylish rooms! Reception is a little bit different with staff tapping into a laptop to check you in, but they are very friendly and efficient. We knew the area so did not need advice, but I overheard a member of staff talking to another guest and they were extremely helpful in pointing out places to eat/drink/etc to someone who clearly didn't know the area. The rooms are fantastic.....modern wooden flooring, lovely bed & linen, lighting great, complimentary iPad and dock, lovely bathroom........really very impressed and didn't feel 'generic'. Well done to all on creating a lovely hotel, keep up the good work!

Booked after reading The Times Cool Hotel recommendation. Reception area is chaotic. No helpful information on the hotel or Exeter except on the ipad. The staff uniforms do not work - it is hard to differentiate staff - and they look scruffy. The single room was small and, with a wooden floor with no carpet, rather cell-like. The gym is very small and poorly equipped. The pool is also small. It does not have an indoor area - this is the jacuzzi -both were very cold. Even if we ever have a hot summer the pool and surrouding area would only accommodate 4-6 people. It has taken me a long time to describe our meal in the restaurant. We waited for 15 mins before being handed a menu/ipad. Another 25 mins before a drink came. After 30 mins we asked for some bread to nibble and tried to stay calm as diners around us began complaining. It was not a pleasant atmosphere. The waiting staff stood in a line looking anxiously into the kitchen and were not looking after guests. After another 40 mins we again asked for some bread but the waiter said we had to wait while he distributed table candles. It never came. After waiting for one hour the food arrived at 9pm. We were tired and the food was not memorable. We were offered a complimentary dessert - something I would never refuse - but we had both lost the will to live. [Next day: my travelling companion normally loves a cooked breakfast but was afraid to order ...]. There were other issues but I have run out of characters. The staff were not managed properly and were not attentive. Throughout the whole time no one asked us if we were enjoying our stay - maybe they were afraid of the answer?

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel & would definately recommend it. The staff were helpful, polite & attentive. The hotel itself was tastefully decorated, calm and relaxing. Our standard room was very nice, fairly small, but great for the money we paid.
The service at dinner was good and the food was very nice. All in all it was a great stay & we will definately return.

We stayed at the hotel for one night on Thursday 23rd August on our way down to Padstow for the Bank Holiday weekend. A lot of the reviews on Trip Advisor have been a bit negative but we can only give praise. The hotel overall was excellent, lovely bar, lounge, and dining areas. The reception area is very modern but we've stayed in hotels before with the same set up. Our bedroom wasn't enormous but was very clean, modern and comfortable. It had everything we needed including a really lovely bathroom. We ate in the hotel restaurant which was very busy. The food wasn't outstanding but it was enjoyable enough. Service was a little on the slow side, for which the staff apologised and we were given a complimentary drink which was a very nice touch. To be honest a wait between courses didn't bother us . All of the staff we came into contact with during our short stay were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Considering the hotel has only been open about 8 weeks everything seemed to work very well but there will probably be some teething problems. We will defenitely stay again.

I stayed here with a colleague a couple of weeks after the hotel open.

We booked the rooms through the Late rooms website and got them at an amazing price. We had two single rooms which were a little small but they are perfectly formed.

The reception experience is an experience, you get gathered up by one of the smart / casual dressed staff and sat down on comfy chairs and check in on a wireless tablet. At this point you also pickup your rooms iPad. The iPad is used to check TV schedule, book taxis, book food, order room service, check your bill etc. Internet can also be used on the iPad, if however your want you use your own device to access the internet then there is also free WiFi.
The rooms were very clean and tidy and have a charging station for iPhone, iPad devices as well as a laptop power point.

A nice touch was when we got back to the rooms after a night out in Exeter the rooms had been tidied and the bed turned down. This led to a very good nights sleep on a super comfortable bed.

Drinks at the bar are a little on the pricey side but the mini bar in the room is free, including snacks, water and alcoholic drinks.

Given the ability to getting the rooms at a similarly good price i would defiantly stay here again.
