We stayed as a joint Christmas and birthday gift for ourselves. It was lovely!
Our room overlooked the gardens, and was spotlessly clean. The REN toiletries were great although the complimentary minibar didn't amount to much. The iPad was a great touch and comprehensive and breakfast cooked to order. The bar, lounge and library were very cool and this is clearly a place in which to be seen!
Next time we would hope to dine at the restaurant. Can thoroughly recommend!

What a lovely hotel. !! This is a fantastic boutique hotel. The rooms are really different .

The small pool area was small but great . There was an inside part with a log burner and an outside part. the gym is very small next to the spa area. I did not have chance o use the spa for a treatment but did have a look.

All of the staff were attentive and friendly but not intrusive.

The evening meal ....... Could not complain about anything. The restaurant is trendy and the kitchen area open, sparkling clean.

Breakfast was equally as nice.

Really worth a visit. I would like to return with my husband.

Downside for spa is ... No sauna or steam room.

Room Tip: I would imagine they are all lovely.

Never been here before but as a belated Mothers Day present to my mum I thought why not! Everyone was very welcoming and helpful and the value for money for the "twilight affair" package was brilliant (a 60 min treatment, use of spa facilities and 3 course set dinner). Nicole the receptionist who greeted us and saw us off at the end of the day was a great character and, again, very welcoming. The girls at the spa were very friendly - I had a brilliant 1/2 hour back massage and 1/2 hour facial by a lovely lady (can't remember her name for the life of me but she said she was also a figure skater so hopefully that narrows it down!) who gave great skin care advice afterwards too. Then we sat down for dinner and had a fantastic young Aussie/NZ waiter (tried to pinpoint the accent but couldn't quite manage to do so!) who was very attentive and the food was great also. The only thing I'd say which could be considered for the future is perhaps a hot tub and/or sauna as the 'fire room' (the inside part of the heated pool with wood burner) started to feel slightly cool after a while once you get used to the temperature (I'd say it's a similar temperature to a warm bath so it would be nice to have an even hotter option). Overall, I totally recommend it and have already told friends/family about it!

A great historic building which combines old and new and is a short walk from the city centre Dotted around the building are reminders of its original purpose, an eye hospital. We were greeted immediately on entry by very friendly staff and checking in was swift. We were given an iPad which provided full details of the hotel facilities, enabled us to order papers, wake up call, check our bill at anytime and browse the net. Our room was spotlessly clean and the bed comfortable. Breakfast provided plenty of choice and service was very good. Unfortunately we were on quite a tight schedule and were unable to prevail ourselves of the spa facilities. Next time perhaps as we will return.

I booked this weekend break for my mums 40th birthday as a surprise. When i called to ask if they had anything i could give her on the way to the hotel they sent a beautiful poster/brochure. That was the start of a truly amazing visit!
When we arrived on the day we went to check in and the lovely lady told us that the room my mum was staying in had been upgraded! Amazing!! We went to our rooms and where gob smacked by how beautiful they where! And so clean!!
We then had spa treatments booked 1 at 3.30 and 2 at 6pm and 1 in the morning. we walked around the hotel finding the bar, lounge, restaurant, pool and the spa. The spa was so welcoming and the ladies in there where so lovely. They took my mum off for her treatment and told us to relax in the pool. The pool was stunning!
The spa treatments where amazing and totally relaxing. The meal in the restaurant after our treatments was exquisite, the service impeccable!
There is nothing i can fault about our stay here! Thank you so much to the kind and friendly staff for making my mums 40th so special.

Visited recently with a friend for a spa day. From the moment we arrived we were shown exactly where to go by friendly staff. The pool and spa facilities are all incredible, especially the inside pool area heated by the wood burning stove, have never been anywhere quite like it before. We ended the day with afternoon tea in another beautiful, modern room. Highly recommended!

We have 2 dogs and stayed a lot of so called dog friendly hotels in last 10 years but The Magdalen Chapter is the best, we can not praise enough for their good service, good food and hospitality.
Even their room service food was delicious.( we did not want to leave our dogs alone in our room) We were ready to eat our breakfast outside but they have set a table specially for us in the corner of the lounge.
And we enjoyed fabulous breakfast. Will definitely go back there. Also very good value as they did not charge any extra for our dogs .
