“So glad these places still exist”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2014 via mobile

We popped in here off the back of a recommendation from a friend who works round the corner. With the attempts of world domination by Costa and Starbucks, I'm so glad places like this still stand out. The place only seats about 25 but had a lovely relaxed atmosphere of wot want to simply sit and chat.

The coffee is great, one of the best I've tried. The menu is small but tasty and freshly prepared, not out of a wrapper. Cakes are rather scummy so don't come in here if you don't want to indulge.

Will be back again no doubt so please keep places like this going.

“MORE THAN COFFEE”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 June 2014

You have to look twice to spot the narrow frontage, but once inside there is always a big welcome. The key point is the superb quality of the coffee, but the atmosphere comes a close second. There is a regular crowd, but no coffee snobbery - everyone gets the same welcome and attentive service. Yes, it gets busy at times, but unless you are in a real rush, it is always worth the wait. Cakes (from the Exploding Bakery, yes, really) are good, and my bacon sandwich has always been superbly cooked to meet my preference for crispiness. It is also fun to sit outside and strike up a chat with one of the very interesting people who enjoy the street scene.

By the way, the Exploding Bakery is just down the street by the Central Railway Station and is a good alternative - same cakes, but you get to watch them being made....

“Best Coffee in Exeter”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

Very quirky, very individual little cafe with lots of charm and several newspapers to read while enjoying absolutely wonderful coffee. Their spicy sausage is DELICIOUS as are their pain au raisin, croissants and various cakes . Friendly, welcoming service.

“The best flat white in Exeter & in charming surroundings”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2014

Theirs is the best coffee in Exeter, hands down. Every sip is pure heaven, as are the fresh cakes baked just a few doors down at the highly regarded Exploding Bakery. The two couldn't compliment each other better, and it's difficult not to be rapturous afterwards. The place itself is charming, comfortable and easy to relax in, despite its size, though it is actually bigger inside than it looks from the outside.

“A little lunchtime bolt hole”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2014 via mobile

Great little coffee shop - friendly staff, nice cakes, quirky decor. Sometimes you might find it hard to get a seat because it's so tiny - I've popped in after work around 5.30 before getting my train - so much nicer that the Nero next door.
