“Not as good as it should be”
Reviewed 12 February 2014

We usually try and stay in a Premier Inn because we think they are good value for money. This newly built hotel has taken the usual Premier Inn plus points and improved them. The decor is more imaginative than the older hotels and the rooms are big and comfortable. The bathrooms are a good size with good lighting and mirrors - all good. However we had a few issues with our room not being serviced on the first day and WiFi was frequently unavailable as the system of codes broke down and the credit card registration also was faulty. I understand that this is a budget chain but I wasn't too happy with being faced with machines to check in. The reception desk was sometimes manned but often unattended.
Finally , the restaurant. Very poor service and average food, just not good enough.

My first stay at a Premier Inn was as good as the tv adverts make out so was very pleased with the comfort, size and facilities in the room. Service was friendly and helpful and it was conveniently situated not far off the M5 so was easy to find.

The Premier Inn was very good, although the rooms were wrongly allocated during check-in and I think if a room is billed as a Twin then it shouldn't have a double bed and a sofa bed, basically the same as a double. Do not eat in the next-door Brewer's Fayre. Worst fish and chips of my life!

The hotel itself is a fairly new build. Check-in is via a self-serve machine but there was someone there to assist but it looked a fairly foolproof system. The room itself was very pleasant, clean, modern and cool. The decoration of the whole hotel is fairly cool and modern looking. After recently spending another night away in a different chain hotel, I was very impressed by the Exeter Premier Inn. Rooms have a large flat screen TV and the bed was comfortable. The only downside I found was that I booked online and included breakfast which added an extra £8 to the cost. However, the £8 breakfast deal offered by Premier is an 'all-you-can-eat' deal so unless you can eat a great deal at breakfast time, don't bother and pay on the day for breakfast as a full English is only £5.

Without looking around at any alternatives, we booked this Travel Lodge as a last minute get away. Due to the earliest check in of 3pm, we first headed into Exeter City Centre for some shopping and sight-seeing before getting back to the hotel in the evening. The check-in process was easy, the staff helpful and friendly, and the free car parking was great. The hotel is situated just off the M5 and is next to a petrol station - which proved handy in our case.

The room was large and well presented, with a large bed and decent sized LCD TV. The bathroom had a reasonably sized bath (though not very deep), and a powerful (warm) shower. The bed must be at least a queen size, and was very high! It was very comfy, but if I am being picky the pillows were a little on the high size for me, which made for a less than ideal sleep. As per other reviews, the walls are quite thin so you do hear quite a bit of other guests (during noisy times). We stayed on a Saturday night, and the adjacent rooms had a travelling hockey team staying in them – whilst they certainly weren't loud, we could at times hear them before going out and in the morning when checking out. Given that our room was overlooking the petrol station/M5, we didn't notice traffic noise at all, so hopefully this puts the noise issue into some perspective.

Location wise, the Travel lodge is perfect for those travelling on the M5. It’s around 10 minutes away from the city centre, and about 2 minutes from a park and ride – I wish we had known this first, as City centre parking is around £9 for 4 hours! We took a taxi (number provided by reception) into town for the evening, and it was around £10 each way.

We paid £45 for the night (due to late booking), but noticed rooms as low as £29. It’s a good value budget hotel, well located, and an easy commute into the City Centre.

I stayed here for 3 nights, very clean and tidy. Friendly staff and easy check in! Rooms and beds were fantastic !! Would recommend overnight stay. Only downside was the quality of food next door! I would highly recommend the beefeater about 2 mins away !!

The hotel is fine. The brewers fayre attached for evening meal is dreadful. Cheap foods poorly cooked and self service. Not what you want at the end of a busy day.
i had to queue at the bar to order my food, everyone else was in the same queue ordering drinks only. I waited 10 minutes to be told there is 30 min wait for food
