enjoyed the quaintness of this large hotel which must have been busy years ago when more people used trains its very oldy worldy inside but very cosy and homely .yes the hotel has some issues with its decor and datedness but was clean comfortable quiet during the night very good value .it was nice to have a deep long bath too .if you like new and every room the same this wont be for you .

Room Tip: rooms at the back are quieter but when your tierd it dosent matter as beds are lovely

stayed there last night and what a s@#t hole dont get me wrong i dont expect gold plated taps and axminster carpet for £40 a night but i do expect a clean ,damp and mold free room with out holes everywhere this place need some serious attention there is a train station just across the road as you will find out due to the shabby old single glazed window you are better off staying in there oh and if you do stay at the great western dont forget to pay an extra £8 to park out the front never again

This hotel needs some serious refurbishment and up dating. It is a very old fashioned and shabby railway hotel. Do not stay in room 22 at the front of the hotel as there is no double glazing and it is right on the main road with cars and lorries going by constantly. However the bed was comfortable and the room was clean. We only saw one member of staff who was extremely friendly and helpful (and busy). She was on reception when we arrived, was working behind the bar later in the evening and was serving our breakfast the next morning. The best bit about it was it's location next to St David's train station from where they were running a free shuttle to Exeter Uni open day.

This Hotel need Health and safety visit - The place was fitthy and the best laugh the receptionist said ( after compalining ) she had to agree the place was an embarresment. DONT STAY THERE - the place is a discrace. Damp walls , Carpet ripped - damp ceiling, Wiring hanging out of walls and sockets ( and I had one of the best room acording to the receptionist ). Better off using one of the very decent alternatives for less money close by.
Ps The owner needs Taxman ( no proper receipt ) and H& S investigation. Stop there games.

Room Tip: No Pool ( thankgod it would probably give you legionairs )

It is next to the St David's train station, however a bit of a walk (20 minutes) from city centre (partially uphill). The bar is friendly and the food good. The breakfast was good, too, and they loaned me a newspaper to read. The room was very acceptable. Would definitely stay here again.,

If this hotel has been refurbished and improved I hate to think what it was like before as it still needs a lot more updating even the staff thinks it still needs updating a lot. We were in a twin room and the lino in the bathroom was cracked, the shower was not very good, there was tiling over the original wallpaper and in the bedroom the sink was cracked, infact all the furniture has some sort of damage to it. It is supposed to have Sky but you can fool me as there are hardly any channels that you can get, you can get more channels in the bar than in your own room, there looked like blood stains on the walls but i must admit the bed was reasonably comfortable. The first breakfast was horrible with poached eggs, coffee only luke warm but the second breakfast with friend egg was better. I will not be staying there again and I will certainly be telling my friends not to stay there.

Room Tip: Do not stay there
