“Friendl atmosphere with the best sandwiches in the world!”
Reviewed 28 March 2013

I've been going to the bridge since I was tiny, as it's a family FAVOURITE! Lots of character inside and a lovely spot right on the river for summer time, really friendly staff and the BEST sandwiches in the world!

“quite wonderful”
Reviewed 5 March 2013

well its in the Good Beer Guide for a reason! It looks huge from outside but inside there are two small rooms and a bar about 3 feet wide off what used to be someones tiny front room. Its like having a drink in the 50's. The service and customers are friendly and teh beer is simply magnificent. An absolute must

“The Best of the few remaining REAL ALE HOUSES”
Reviewed 4 March 2013

The Bridge Inn in Topsham has always been my favourite pub. If you hanker after a pint of the finest ale to be found, get on down to Topsham town. The Bridge Inn philosophy is not to make money but to serve the finest pint possible. All their ales are well settled in an ideal cellar and served how they should be, only when perfect and straight from the barrel. The vast majority of pubs do not have a clue, but this one mastered the art more than 100 years ago. Things have not changed much over the years but they do now have electricity. This Sunday as we sat in a real pub with real people around a real fire listening to real music and drinking real ale, we all felt really blessed to be there!

“How a pub was meant to be”
Reviewed 20 January 2013

The Bridge Inn in Topsham, Devon is famous for being the first pub that the Queen ever visited and she certainly made an excellent choice. This small, cosy pub is unique for a number of reasons : firstly, there is no bar - orders are placed at the door and the welcoming staff go into the cellar to pour you a glass from one of their barrels. Secondly, all the beers are local and with a beer list that changes every week, you can try something new on every visit. On a cold January evening, the spiced cider was particularly special - served hot, straight from a pot that was heating slowly on the stove. Popular with both locals and those from further afield, the Bridge Inn has retained its sense of history with its small wooden tables, old-fashioned decor and two rooms that branch off from the main hallway. Beers are very reasonably priced and it is one of the only places in the country that offers 'thirds' ( a third of a pint) so if you really desire, you can try the whole beer list in one night without getting completely drunk ! Prices are extremely good. Wine is also available. No meals served but there are some 'bar snacks' to enjoy. Anyone who cares about real ales and supporting local breweries will love this place. Unusual, but an extremely special pub.

“No doubt about it, this is the perfect pub.”
Reviewed 11 November 2012

The Bridge Inn is just outside the town of Topsham in Devon with a car park alongside the river. If you can't find it ask for directions to the Darts Farm market and the pub is nearby. No lager or other keg beers but there's a menu of real ales which are brought up from the nearby cellar a pint at a time as you order. The limited menu is just ploughman's and pies but they seem fresh and local. Trusted regular customers get to sit behind the bar, there's a games room and downstairs a big room with comfortable old settees but this only seems to be open when it's very busy or for private functions. Our favourite is the main bar but this is little bigger than the average household kitchen with a couple of ancient tables and tatty flags in the ceiling dating from some long forgotten royal occasion. Turn off your mobile before you enter please and join in the chat that always seems to develop. This is the only pub the Queen has ever paid an official visit to and there are photos to prove it. We found this place by accident and keep going back. It is wonderful.
