Spent one night in this delightfully cosy hotel! Do not be put off by the cramped reception and seriously aged and rickety stairs. Our room, No 2, was a delight,up to date, roomy and very tastefully decorated! With a view over the harbor through a lovely leaded window and a really good sized bathroom, we could happily have stayed on!

Our second favourite hotel in 10 days in Devon and Cornwall. Accommodation (room with great harbour/sea view and window alcove) was superb and full of charm. Service at check-in and the bar was really friendly and very efficient. Meal (fish) was very fresh, well cooked and delicious. Lift to Lynmouth is just around the corner and free parking is available right outside the hotel as soon as the shops have shut at 6.00 pm. Wi-fi a bit spasmodic in its reception but this did not spoil our stay. Definitely recommended.

We were lucky enough to find this hotel/Inn on route back from Cornwall, sitting on the edge of the harbour the setting is just perfect. Check in was very welcoming, we hadn't booked but we were fixed up with a wonderful sea view room with a nice big bathroom and a very comfy bed. We have a small dog who was also made welcome so to find a hotel this good that takes pets is a huge bonus.
We arrived late afternoon so we went in the bar for a drink and chatted to some very friendly locals, the bar was constantly busy and the friendly staff were quick, attentive and efficient.
We ate in the bar on the evening, the menu choice was very good I had Mussels to start and the Crab Slate as a main which was delicious. My husband had oysters to start and Fish & Chips as a main which again was superb.
Great nights sleep and a delicious breakfast.
I would recommend a visit and a stay at The Rising Sun, we will definitely be returning.
Best bar staff in Devon!!!!

Room Tip: Room 2 has a lovely view over the harbour and has a bath.

Stopped off for a drink, all very pleasant but please make the wi-fi free for customers in the bar not just those that stay in accommodation. Would certainly have had a few more drinks if we could have used the Internet. Instead spent our money else where.

Baked shellfish outstanding, Oysters best ever good service and choice of beer. Did not stay in hotel but would like to. Only ate in the bar (twice had to go back for more) Very reasonable price considering the quality of food

This was our second weekend break at The Rising Sun. The staff were the same as in 2012, just as friendly and attentive, the beer was just as good. We stayed in room 5 again with its harbour view and quirky little shower room, recently refitted. This is in our view the best pub for miles around. It's a superb base for exploring Exmoor and visiting The Lynton & Barnstaple railway, or walking the cliffs. One thing to bear in mind is the parking because there is no car park. We found that at about 5.30 pm the day trippers vacate the spaces in the street opposite, the quayside, where parking controls then permit you to remain until 12 noon the next day. In any event there are pay and display car parks not too far away in the village. Do eat in, the restaurant is more expensive than the crowded bar but its good food and service throughout.

Room Tip: Room 5 or 10 for sea views and quirkiness

We didn't say here but we did pop in for lunch. The menu is not child freindly as such but the good thing is the staff told us that before we sat down. We had the most delicious Brie and bacon sandwiches on their own homemade bread, it was served with salad and some lovely crisps. I would return but probably without the children. Sorry kids!
