Hotel decor amazing and great views from restaurant and our room, which was comfortable and clean.
Staff were polite and helpful. Service good in the restaurant and food delicious.
Overall good value for money for both food and accomodation.
A lovely place for a weekend away.

We stayed here mid September as part of a living social deals break. The hotel is charming ,however the restaurant staff in the evening are bordering on rude. The food is extremely expensive, with the main course coming in at around £20 so the set meal costs the 2 of us about £80.00! We eventually got the wine that was supposed to be free with the deal after arguing with the waiter but wished we hadn’t as it was very cheap white wine, warm and undrinkable. We finished our meal and retired to one of the hotels quirky lounges we were then perused by the waiter who then tried to overcharge us by £40 and for some reason kept saying we had left the hotel, this was odd as it was our first of 2 nights. Half the staff are really good the other half just don’t care. Nice place lovely view don’t eat in the overpriced restaurant as the service is at best surly, the food is just about OK. We left a feedback form at reception asking for some feedback via our emails but have never had any response. Seems like customer service hasn’t got down to this bit of North Devon.

Room Tip: Stay at the "Hunters Inn" instead better food nice staff and landlord.

When one returns to a place that holds good memories there is a chance of disappointment because little remains the same in life. We first went to The Tors six years ago and it has since changed hands.
This is where the good news starts; really liked the public room changes and it now has the feel of a country house so the new owner has achieved that, which I imagine was his aim but we prefer not to see him and his family plastered all over the place by way of casual photographs - this is a commercial venture, it is not his home. However, pictures aside, it really is quite lovely and we did feel welcomed.
The receptionist was perfect - very approachable without being over familiar but much over worked as she was the only person around and trying to do too much - get her some help Mr Miller!
Restaurant experience was a 10/10, waiting staff were the right side of attentive, the blonde lady who served us most of the time was excellent and the food was very, very good both at dinner and breakfast.
The reason for not giving a five rating is very simple; Our room and bathroom were horrible. We paid £170.00 for one night DBB and despite having a balcony the overall price should never have been that high. The room was small with nothing to explain the price and the bathroom was dreadful. We needed to watch a financial item on the tv but the signal was awful, you could only walk around the room one at a time and the bathroom shower curtains wanted to cling to you. We did know we had the last balcony room but at no time did anyone admit it really was not worth it and only suitable for a single person and, for that, I am very upset. Had we been advised on initial enquiry that the room was not at all nice we would have booked an alternative date for a better room. To clarify this point: my email request stated a ground or balcony room, we naturally requested best rate, not cheap deal and I am gutted with the room we ended up with, particularly as this was a surprise for my now husband and The Tors was one we visited as part of our very first UK holiday together.
However, all that said, the hotel still deserves a four rating because of everything else and we very much hope they improve rooms such as we stayed in if only to justify the room charge.

Complete jem of a hotel. The staff were so very helpful and polite, nothing was too much trouble. My room was upgraded within minutes of my arrival at no extra cost, and the setting and interior of the hotel is fantastic. Definitely worth the trip.

Room Tip: Views of the sea a must

We stayed at Martin Miller's Tors hotel last night - what a surprise. From the outside it looks like a standard 3 star hotel - until you see the elegant statues of 2 gorillas greeting you at the entrance and i am not referring to the friendly and efficient reception staff! Martin Miller has taken over this hotel and is in the process of creating a real style gem and his infectious enthusiasm has rubbed off on all the staff. The place has a great buzz about it . The food is superb - if you like filet steak with pepper sauce you won'nt find a better version in the UK. We were there on a fairly cold wednesday night in september and the place was buzzing . The town is charming and this is a hotel not to miss - it wont be long before the professionals realise how good this is so strike now before it is truely discovered.

I went for a weekend with my stepmother and spaniel! It rained for most of the time but the trip was saved by the great food and warm welcome from the staff. Very dog friendly, to the point I'm told ,they are making doggie beds ...... four posters! Whatever next? Owned by the wonderfully eccentric Martin Miller who opened the " Art Bar" at The Manor in Lynmouth that weekend. Completely wacky!

Room Tip: If you are on the riverside of the hotel, keep your window closed ..... Loud sound of rushing water...

We visited the restaurant for an evening meal. Given the choices in Lynmouth, it was one of the best meals we had during our b/h stay.
The 3 course meal for £30 proved to be superb value. The food quality was very good, presentation and taste was excellent.
I would highly recommend the restaurant, they did children menus as well. The service was excellent and attentive. We spent all the evening in the hotel, enjoying the superb views and varied , interesting decor of the lounge rooms.
The Terrace menu looked good value as well, on a par to some of the local pub food prices.
