Eccentric, charming, great location - all absolutely true but couple of issues to be addressed before perfect.
Entrance ! Arrived in pouring rain in the dark - took first sign Tors Hotel. Big Mistake - almost went home at that point. That entrance is 2nd carpark - very tight parking - entry by code only - tried to ring Hotel - NO SIGNAL AREA!!!. Persevered and went back to main road and found
proper entrance - allelujah! Charming, idiosyncratic and quirky in a nice way. Rooms due to be refurbed - cant wait. Waited and waited for waiter to bring menus and take order - food excellent! My
partner wasn't feeling great and wanted something easy and plain but no deviation from menu was offered, what a pity no empathy. Will go again - just hope food offerings a bit more flexible.

Stayed for 2 nights B/B and dinner at The Tors, Lynmouth in mid October in a group of 27 walkers .Fascinating hotel in quiet location with antiques in public rooms and attractive elevated views from dinning room, lounges and many bedrooms.
Good menu with generous helpings of food and excellent fish starter and main courses.Only adverse comments were too much salt used in some instances and some of the 27 found the duck course tough, although others didn't. No long waits for service despite the numbers.
Very helpful and efficient staff, warm and comfortable public rooms, ample parking and realistic rates at this time of year. Walks possible direct from hotel and easy access to Lynton and Lynmouth centres, albeit with some steepish slopes. Would certainly recommend.

Room Tip: choose a sea view room if available

We've just returned from a wonderful stay at the Tors Hotel. We arrived quite late in the rain but the lovely room with a bonus turret room was a wonderful welcome. The room was very comfortable, a generous space with everything we needed.
The decor is very interesting, In somebody else's hands it wouldn't work but in this hotel the mix of antiques and quirky objects creates a stunning effect.
Breakfast was excellent, my only quibble is that we were not offered a top up of our coffees.
Would certainly like to return.

We stayed in the Tors Hotel in late September on a two night break.

I had read up on the hotel on trip advisor, so knew that the hotel was going through refurbishment under new management. We loved our stay but it will only get better once the refurb is complete!

Our room hadn't yet been refurbished so looked a little dated but the twin beds and matresses certainly didn't seem old, nice firm matress and crisp linen. As I said the room was a bit dated but the clenliness of it was immaculate, even the grouting in the bathroom looked fresh. Nice supply of tea/coffee with a reasonable amount of milk not just the two that you usually get, even a couple of packets of biscuits - which was a lovely touch. Best of all we had a sea view which at night was just gorgeous to look out on from your bed - so relaxing!

Downstairs in the public areas the refurbishment had definitely been completed. There was a lovely lounge area set in the hillside at the back of the hotel and then on the ground floor was the restaurant, reception and bar with several small rooms to sit in - each with a different feel but all rich and endulgent in decoration and all have the most amazing views of the bay and out to the sea!

The staff were all really friendly and helpful from check in through to the restaurant and bar, even every cleaner we saw said good morning!

We also took up the option of the a la carte menu evening dinner in the restaurant which was just amazing and great value! The standard of food was just as good at breakfast with plenty of fresh sea food options to endulge in throughout the day.

I had read people complaining about the walks from the car parks with their bags and to be honest don't really understand what the fuss was about. We parked in top car park on the first day and we simply walked in the top door of the hotel (3rd floor) and just took the lift down. Then on the second day we parked n the bottom car park which was just a walk along the front of the hotel and a few steps.

So all in all we had a fantastic time and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a hotel with great sea views - you just couldn't beat it!

We stayed for 2 nights knowing that the hotel was still to complete renovations, swimming pool not working, ok, it was raining anyway, but the rubbish left around the pool seen from our room was not a good view. The food was just wonderful, staff are excellent and very helpful, but like most people like to be approached in a pleasant way I saw and heard rudeness from the guests towards staff. I was told the hotel is closing for the month of November to renovate the bedrooms and I hope the leaky windows. We enjoyed our stay at the Tors and look forward to using the finished product .Great area for walkers.

A beacon of relaxation, set in stunning coastal surroundings, nestled against the rugged Exmoor coastline and set in 5 acres of woodland, The Tors Hotel overlooks the picturesque harbour of Lynmouth and provides one of the most striking views of the North Devon coast. Set against this dramatic vista there is the contrast of the warmth of the welcome and comfort provided by our characteristic hotel. This 19-bedroom hotel is crammed with Martin's antiques and curiosities. The Tors has all the hallmarks of his unique style. Roaring log fires, candlelit sensuality, books by the thousand and bowls of fruit and sweets, all washed down with a Millers award winning gin and tonic. In the AA rosseted restaurant you will find a relaxed atmosphere with superb quality food, an excellent wine list and probably the best views in the village. The whole family will find a warm welcome in the restaurant and as much care will be taken with your little one's ice cream as with your carefully prepared main meal.
