“Room with a Magnificent View... and Great Food, too”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014

We decided to eat at the Tor Hotel on our last night, just on a whim. What a wonderful surprise it was!

First of all, the hotel is owned by an antique dealer who has fitted it out with wonderful antiques, so you just feel like you are in the lap of old-world luxury.

Then, we were seated in the dining room, overlooking Lynmouth and the sea as the sun was setting on a perfect day. The setting was nothing short of spectacular.

On top of all of that, the service was friendly and helpful and the food was just mouth-watering. Delicious is an understatement.

We all claimed not to be THAT hungry and ended up having starters, mains and sharing desert.

As the sun set and the sky turned to fire over the sea, we felt that we had landed in a magical place.

Would love to stay at the hotel some time, too. It looks great.

If you are in the area, treat yourself to a meal at the Tor.

“Lovely views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

On a summer evening, vacate the dining room and eat on the terrace with the sunset laid out around you. The food is good, the pate was nice and the duck breast done properly. The wine selection fit the dinner well, and the waitstaff was friendly and unobtrusive. Really a nice evening out.

“Dinner with magnificent view”

Brilliant view, my husband and I was in awe at the horizon with hardly any clouds to see in the distance. The price was understandable by the dinner we had overlooking the coastal landscape of Holiday hill.

“Great lunch, seriously underpriced.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 June 2014

We booked for Sunday lunch. A step walk up to the Tors but boy was it worth it.

It was a baking hot day so we were one of the few people actually sitting in the restaurant but the outside decking was fairly full.

We both had the traditional Roast Beef dinner at £10.95. There must have been half a cow on our plates together with beautiful roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. A selection of vegetables were served seperately.

The chef Andrew came round to talk to people at the tables and we pointed out to him (and the duty manager) that the meal was easily worth another £5 of £6.

For desserts we had a huge cheese board and a white chocolate and basil pannacotta with an Earl Grey syrup. Sounded 'interesting', tasted wonderful.

After lunch, on the decking, a classical guitarist played Joaquin Rodrigo style Spanish music. Given the hot weather, stunning views and the music, we could easily have been on the Med.

A wonderful meal and experience.

“Relaxed and relaxing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2014

Staying in Lynton we decided ti visit this impressive building perched on the cliffs overlooking Lynton. Great views down the coast, lots of lunges and relaxing corners, interesting bar and bar food, fascinating Millers Antiques decor too, a great place to spend a long evening or a wet afternoon.
Staff numbers seemed to be minimal even though the restaurant is big, but they were all jolly, smiling and helpful. Food was not outstanding but neither was it poor and the menu was not a good indication of what would turn up on your plate! I expected shrimps to be small, not enormous (but tasty) prawns. Strangely the bar meals menu was more interesting than the restaurant menu.
Parking is tight if you drive up to the hotel.
The owner of the hotel died at about six months ago and at present the multimillion pound renovation programme seems to have been temporarily halted. This may well be a really good hotel in a year or two's time, We dined with residents who were all full of praise for staff and most of the renovated rooms. All in all staff did a great job keeping things going,
The restaurant and the terrace tables all offer fabulous views especially on a Summer's evening.

If you try to walk up to the restaurant beware, the path is muddy, winding and steep, experienced walkers it is tricky in the dark after rain and we gave up trying to walk down it after nightfall and got a taxi! To our surprise the taxi was extremely reasonable and can be recommended on the way to the hotel as well as for getting back as the local roads are very steep and winding,
