Description: Refreshments served with a side order of spectacular views across Lynmouth Bay. Our Grade I listed building perched high on the cliff top is perhaps the most beautiful location for a Cream Tea in the Westcountry. We also offer a range of freshly prepared sandwiches, homemade cakes, light lunches and vegetarian options to eat in or take away; and of course we do drinks and freshly ground coffee too. To find the cafe use postcode EX35 6HW.

I'm very surprised by the previous reviews as my experience of this cafe was very different.

We visited on a couple of occassions, once at lunchtime on Wedneday 14th October, then again mid morning on Friday 16th October.

On the first ocassion, we had already eaten lunch elsewhere, so we just had a lovely cup of tea each and I had some of the warm Raspberry and apple pie, served with clotted cream. My husband had a slice of tiffin cake and we both though the the food and tea (and the dog, Bracken) were superb!

On the Friday we decided to go for a late breakfast at 11am and we both found it to be wonderful. The tes was again perfect and every item on the plate was cooked to perfection. I'd asked fortoast instead of fried bread and the toast was two thick slices of lovely think whole grain bread, all very fresh. Now, here's something that I'm not sure I should admit. After the lovely breakfast (now do bear in mind that we were travalling home at this point, not to return to North Devon for many years) I asked my husband if it would be truely disgusting to follow up the breakfast with a slive of the pie. The lovely man said that I was on holiday, so normal food rules don't apply and off he went to get me the pie! It was so good. I let hubby have some and he agreed that the pastry was melt in the mouth good.

The location of this cafe is lovely and we were expecting a wholesome lunch. The meal is paid for before it arrives. My husband ordered steak & ale pie, I ordered a cheese & tomato toastie. The meat in the pie looked as though it had been sitting on the shelf uncovered for days. It was dry without any gravy. The cheese in my toastie was like rubber and the lettuce in the side salad was limp to say the least. As we had already paid we didn't complain as, even if we had been offered something else to eat, we didn't want it. We picked at the food and left never to return!

We recently visited Lynton and were pleased to see an award winning cafe/restaurant near the railway going down to Lynmouth. There was a dog in the cafe which was barking quite loudly but we still went in for something to eat. The small tables are quite squashed together but the four of us managed to sit down. Two of us ordered cheese toasties, one other had gammon, egg and chips and the fourth member in our group ordered steak and ale pie with new potatoes. Well when the pie arrived we should have sent it back there and then because the meat and pastry looked very dry. In fact there wasn't any 'ale' in it at all. Together with the pie and new potatoes came the house salad of lettuce, cucumber, kiwi fruit, grapes, grapefruit and orange slices and tomatoes. Not the sort of accompaniment you would expect to have with pie and potatoes. There was no gravy just a little sauce boat of balsamic vinegar dressing. The two cheese toasties were burnt on one side and the stringy cheese was oozing out. As we had paid upfront for our food we felt that if we complained we would have to wait for replacement meals and we were short of time so we decided that we would just leave and never ever go there again.
