“Fantastic stay”
Reviewed 19 August 2013

I cannot praise the crown enough, we stayed with our two children and had a fantastic room which gave them their own bedroom with so much room it felt like an apartment. The room was clean, bright and had lots of storage. The food was amazing, the portions are large and it's all freshly cooked so we decided to eat there every evening (3 day stay) as it was great value for money and was delicious. The staff are really friendly and the pub has a great atmosphere and a good mix of locals and tourists. The location in Lynton was ideal and it's simply beautiful. We will be returning to visit you again. Many thanks to Tristain and Naomi for a wonderful long weekend break

Having spent a weekend in Lynton, we used the Crown as an even base to meet up with friends and have a hearty supper before retiring to our B&B. Whilst there were a lot of locals in (a good sign, surely?), we were welcomed warmly and both the food and drink went down very well with us. The only downside was on the Sunday when all the real ale had run out (a fate worse than death!), but understandable considering the volume of patrons in there the previous night. Altogether, a good establishment, and I'll definitely be returning in the future.

We spent a wonderful week at this lovely family run pub in the beautiful if not a little hilly village of Lynton in North Devon. The landlord and landlady, Tristan and Naomi were extremely welcoming, as were all the other hotel and bar staff. The landlady’s Mum, Christine, also works in the hotel giving this Hotel a very wholesome and special family atmosphere. Our family room (room 8) was a very comfortable size with the added bonus of offering two bedrooms in a suite which meant we were not all cramped together in one room. We even had a four poster bed which was awesome and looked beautiful. Our room had double aspect views into the surrounding hills and village. The breakfasts were very generous with plenty of choice for everyone. We ate in the bar most evenings and were made very welcome by the locals. We had something different to eat every night, lovely food; my favorite was the seafood pasta dish which was divine. I can truly say we did not want to leave at the end of our holiday. Needless to say; we will be back!!

Visited here on two evenings as we were staying in Lynton and wanted a short walk after our evening meal. Very friendly welcome from staff and locals. Their ham egg and chips is really good and excellent value. I had fish the second evening which was again good. I didn't notice lots of local youngsters being a problem and it was half term so you would expect them to be around later. I would definately go here again.

Stayed one night while on the North Coastal Path trek with 6 other friends. It is convenient to the path, clean, welcoming and the bar was filled with rustic locals, some of whom may well be benefit refugees from London.Decided to eat elsewhere in town, but had an excellent cooked breakfast the following morning. Despite some reservations about how noisy it might be at night, proved the rooms were far enough away from the bar to be quiet. Room was comfortable, a bit spartan, but everything worked and was clean. If you don't ask for much, you wont be disappointed. but this is not the spot for a romantic weekend, but good for muddy boots.

Room Tip: not over the bar

Second time myself and family have stayed at the crown first time being in February.
Its a great place to stay with a very friendly welcome, the pub, rooms and bar staff are full of character the food is proper pub grub and the Hotel is centrally located in Lynton making it ideal for walkers, will i stay again? yes without a doubt, down to earth good value friendly hotels with a child friendly pub are hard to find.

I've avoided reviewing the Crown in the past, because I would have been rating the landlord and not the pub: I basically avoided this place for a couple of years having been several times and not received the friendliest welcome, shall we say (read old reviews if you need detaisl!!)... However, the new "owners" have really improved the place. We had a meal for the first time for at least two years, it was perfectly good pub grub. Tribute beer is always good, and barman Joey is an absolute gem (don't get your head turned by reading this stuff, Joey! Just go on being yourself!). A huge improvement, and thank the Lord, because the murals, and the fact that this is a real pub, are a must on a visit to Lynton. Excellent two-person group on the Saturday, too.
