“Perfect!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2013

We met friends for lunch at the Tea Cottage. Not only is the garden picture perfect, but the food is excellent too. We had a choice of seating inside or around the garden. Some tables were in the sun and some in the shade, so a choice for all. The menu was clearly homemade food, and the beef for the sandwiches even came from the Lee Abbey estate! That's fresh! We found everything to be wonderfully presented and of good quality. The prices were very reasonable and they had a little shop with handmade, fairtrade and ethical items, which is always nice to see. Well done to them for promoting Fairtrade. The beach is only a minutes walk down a hill. Parking is available for only a couple of pounds for half the day. The whole setting was perfect, and the service was excellent. Shame it's only open in the summer (and I think not open on Sun or Mon), but if you are in Lynton, or passing through the Valley of the Rocks, it's the perfect stop. Better than Watersmeet.

“Beautiful Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 June 2013

Myself and my fiancee stumbled across this lovely tea cottage on our way back to Lynton after spending some time at Woody bay. The staff were very polite and friendly and the service was brilliant. We only had a light snack, my fiancee had a Cream Tea and I had one of the ice creams. Both were very nice, so much so that we walked back two days later from Lynton just to visit again.

I would highly recommend this as a stopping point for anyone heading in their direction, and if you are not then make a detour to visit them :)

“wonderful setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2013

This cafe' is set in wonderful gardens with seating set in little dells! The food, particularly the cream teas are wonderful(nearly as good as the Cornish ) and to sit enjoying one of these surrounded by stunning plants and heavenly scents with the tinkle from the nearby brook is a memorable experience. You must go if visiting the area and can be got to by car if you don't mind paying the toll!!,it's only £1.

“tranquil setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2013

Lots of outside seating, well spread out so that you don't feel crowded by other people, plus some inside seating for cold or rainy days, next to the Fairtrade shop.

Lovely cakes, including gluten free options and clotted cream!

Tasty soups, again with gluten free bread available if needed.

Disabled parking for 2 or 3 cars close by, plus larger field for other guests to park 2 minutes walk away (£1 for 2 hours, £2 for half a day - honesty box). Sloping path available for access, as well as steps on the more direct path. Wheelchair accessible toilet in the toilet block just outside the Gardens.

If you are just visiting the Tea Cottage and not going on to the Toll Road beyond it, you don't need to pay the £1 toll beside Lee Abbey, although this is not clear on the sign!

Dogs on leads are allowed in the Tea Gardens.

Don't expect fast service - this is a tranquil place to while away some time! Some reviewers have complained about the speed of the service - these are all volunteers, many of whom are foreign and in England only for a few months, so please make allowances if they don't understand everything you say. There is normally someone around who can help!
