“Very relaxing stay in the Studio”
Reviewed 2 April 2013

Husband, Pug dog and I stayed in the Studio 29th March to 1st April. Excellent value for money at £50 per night for Easter. Very comfortable, pleasant space and lovely and warm when we arrived. All self catering needs taken care of with excellent clean facilities provided. The bed was really comfortable and we had the best undisturbed three nights sleep for some time! We have previously stayed in the hotel itself approximately 5 years ago before Ian and Sarah took over and they have done a marvellous job in the last two and half years they have been there sprucing up the property and it looks all the better for it. We will certainly book again for our next visit to Lynton & Lynmouth.
The only things on my wish list in the studio for our next visit would be an iron and ironing board and a mirror positioned somewhere close to an electricity socket for hair drying purposes and possibly a key to the main house so that we could make use of the very pleasant lounge area and open fireplace after a particularly chilly walk and to perhaps make conversation with the other staying guests. A very relaxing long weekend stay and we will certainly return to the studio as it is so ideal for a short break when taking a dog with you.

Room Tip: Studio is perfect if taking your dog with you.

This was our second visit to NWH and even though the March weather conspired against us with subzero temperatures and torrential rain, amazingly we still had a good time. This was in large part due to Ian and Sarah’s boundless hospitality.

NWH is perfectly situated on a wooded hillside on the North Devon coast path – just away from the bustle of Lynton but an easy walk to the shops and a convenient starting point for numerous dramatic and stunning circular walks. The tasteful decor (lots of stripped pine and hand-made furnishings) give the house a warm and inviting feel where you are genuinely permitted to make yourselves at home. Our bedroom had wonderful views over the Bristol Channel where the grey sea merged into an equally grey sky and large gulls soared past, coasting on the strong easterly wind. The bed was firm but comfortable with a quality duvet and crisp white linen – only the lure of one of Ian’s tasty breakfasts being sufficient to entice us to leave it each morning. As per our last visit, both the bedroom and bathroom were sparkling clean.

But we didn’t feel confined to our bedroom - Ian made up the fire in the comfy living room so we could light it on our return mid-afternoon and cosy up with a book, cup of tea and a piece of Sarah’s delicious home-made cake.

Sarah’s quite delectable cooking is what we most look forward to, prepared with mainly fresh, local ingredients and, thanks to her sensibly sized portions, you can comfortably enjoy all three courses! Ian’s ‘cellar’ provides an ample selection of wines, (local) beers / ciders and spirits to accompany. All meals are served at the long, candle-lit table in the spacious dining room where you can chat away the evening with other guests and watch the setting sun turn Countisbury Head ever deepening shades of orange, red and purple.

On the odd nights that (sadly) Sarah has off, try The Oak Room in Lynton (five minute’s walk away) for authentic tapas and friendly attentive service. You can follow this with a trip to Lynton’s tiny (68 seat) but very comfortable cinema, just across the road.

Looking forward to our next visit.....

North Walk House is a rare find in what it offers,a breakfast second to none in both variety and quality, the potential for a marvellously cooked candlelit dinner for two overlooking the Bristol channel,a very special experience. Warm hosts Ian and Sarah who welcome you into their home as though you've known them for years. Immediate access to the coastal path which within 10 minutes walk opens up to allow, weather permitting, tremendous sunsets.
We've been two years in a row now and will definitely plan a third return next year.

We keep coming back to the North Walk House each year in March because of the wonderful view over the sea and the scenery in the Valley of the Rocks but above all because of the superb hosts Sarah and Ian. The evening meals cooked by Sarah on the Aga are delicious with a varied menu of local fish, local organic meat and a vegetarian dish. The seasonal sweets are a treat. Coffee and chocolates are served in the lounge in front of a roaring log fire after dinner.

We stay in the Studio which is a self-catering apartment attached to the house. This is very cosy and equipped with all you can wish for, including a washer/tumble dryer (very useful after a very wet muddy walk), washing up machine and plenty of crockery and utensils.

On the last day we always have breakfast in the house. This includes fresh fruit salad with a variety of cereals, plenty of fruit juices, Ian’s special (full English or a selection from this) and fish.

We always stay a week and look forward to next year.

We arrived at North Walk house on a bitterly cold & snowy March day to a warm welcome from Ian. We immediately felt at home in the Studio apartment which was spotlessly clean, and a real little home from home. Lovely fluffy clean white towels & Bathrobes, crisp white sheets, we slept like a log every night. North Walk house is in a stunning location, so peaceful with spectacular views over the Sea to Wales.
Despite the bitterly cold weather we togged up every day and went walking. We were blessed with dry & mostly bright Days to enjoy the breath taking views on our walks. On our last day we had one of Ian’s full English Breakfasts and very good it was too.
Sarah & Ian are wonderful warm hosts and to be honest I find it hard to understand why anyone would need to complain here as they are both so approachable. So if your not happy tell them I am sure they will bend over backwards to help. We have no complaints & would not hesitate to highly recommend North Walk house, and we hope we will be able to return soon.

We stayed here on our last walking day of the Two moors and Devon coast to coast. We were very grateful when Ian came to rescue us as it was getting late and the rain had started. From the moment we met Ian and Sarah they made us feel welcome and we felt as if they were old friends. Our room had stunning views over the bay and I could have watched the changing scenery outside the window for a long time. We were so pleased that we had chosen this hotel to end our nine day walking holiday. After a good shower we had a wonderful dinner cooked for us, I chose the fish which was beautifully cooked and after desert and cheese we slept very well. We left the next morning having had a good organic breakfast, the bacon, home made yoghurt and granola were wonderful.
We enjoyed it so much we returned again the week after and were not disappointed at all. We recieved the same welcome and hospitality. We are sure that we will be returning again

Room Tip: Good location, well worth eating here and advice on the local area is useful.

We stayed here for 3 nights. Great views, good rooms and very welcoming hosts. We ate in the evening--fish cooked in the Aga. Beautifully cooked. The breakfast porridge was excellent and the full English perfect with top quality ingredients. Best I have eaten for a long time.Welcoming fire and homemade cake in the pleasant lounge.
Lynton/Lynmouth are charming. Quiet but a great walking base. North Walk House is right on the South West Path.

Room Tip: We saw 3 rooms all very nice with sea view
