A near perfect location; breakfast on the terrace overlooking the sea and woods with a distant view of the coast of Wales was quite wonderful. The breakfast menu was excellent too.
Sarah and Ian are delightful hosts, very friendly and eager to help you in any way. The rooms are well furnished and the whole ambiance of the hotel delightful

I know it has been said before, but this place is really rather special. We originally booked for two nights and are so glad we extended it to a third. Be sure to try Sarah's evening meals on at least one evening, and the breakfast both in choice and quality was superb. We liked the communal dining table, and judging by the people who were staying when we did, singles, parent and & son on exam respite, couples - it seemed to be somewhere everyone loved and would be very happy to return to. In terms of location it is a walkers paradise, we stayed for 3 nights and did not use our car. Sarah and Ian go out of their way to ensure you have the best possible experience.

We stayed for a couple of nights and really loved the hotel, the location and the area.
Ian and Sarah make you feel really welcome from the moment you arrive, when they bre up and give you a piece of cake in the guest lounge. Loads of books and guides here to peruse at your leisure if you need to. Our room ( and indeed all guest bedrooms) had an amazing view over the treetops to the sea. The room was pleasent and homely, and clean, albeit pine furniture and bare floorboards may not be everyone's taste. Although full, we heard no other guests, and the location towards the end of a minor road ensures no outside noises other than the sea, the wind and birdsong. Breakfast ( and optional evening meal) is served around a large communual table which encourages conversations with fellow guests. Breakfast was very good, lots of choices and excellent quality. Lynton is about 10 minutes flat walk, Lynmouth about 15 minutes steep walk!! Most eating establishments in either town were full and thus would recommend making a reservation ( we were there Bank Holiday Weekend, may be easier at other times). A touch pricey, but the old adage, you get what you pay for, comes into force. Would we stay again, most definatly.

We loved this place. We can't think of anything which could have improved our stay. Ian and Sarah were brilliant hosts who gave us a warm and friendly welcome and set a relaxed tone whilst providing a very efficient service. Difficult to pull off, I would have thought, but they appeared to do it with consummate ease. They even gave my husband a (very funny and apt) birthday card as I had told them that this was a birthday trip. The house has stunning views of the coast and we were lucky enough to be the first guests this year to sit on the terrace for breakfast which was an absolute delight. A robin even perched on my husband's head at one point! The breakfasts were fantastic, whatever your preference - refreshing fruit, Ian's creamy porridge, Sarah's crunchy home made granola, perfectly cooked scrambled eggs, tasty organic bacon and sausage. Sarah's home made cakes were delicious too as was the evening meal we enjoyed on our first night. Our room (Vert 'Or) was small but very comfortable with lovely crisp sheets and marvellous coastal views. We were always welcome to relax in the sitting room where Ian and Sarah made up a fire. Ian was very helpful in providing advice about suitable walks for us. We did a different walk every day and they were all fantastic. All in all, a memorable visit to a beautiful area where we enjoyed spectacular hospitality which made our trip perfect in every way. Ian and Sarah richly deserve all the praise you will read in all the other reviews.

We stayed at North Walk House for three nights in April and found it a most relaxing and hospitable place to stay - as soon as we walked through the door Sarah showed us the lovely guests' sitting room and made us a pot of tea. We were the only people staying in the main house so had the sitting room to ourselves. We stayed in the Framboise Room which is the largest room I think and had amazing views over the sea - so calming! We found North Walk House via Alastair Sawday and have to say we have never had a bad experience. The room had lovely bed linen and cosy robes. It wasn't warm enough to have breakfast on the terrace so we ate at the big table in the dining room overlooking the bird feeders in the garden.
My husband was poorly on the Sunday and Sarah and Ian were very kind - Sarah made him some soup to eat in the evening when he was feeling a little brighter and we all ate together which was really nice. They are amazing hosts.
We had supper one night at The Rising Sun in Lynmouth which was very good and then the second night at an amazing tapas place called The Oak Room in Lynton - voted North Devon Restaurant of the Year recently. Really good food and Spanish wines - well worth a visit.
We also walked probably far too much of the coastal path from Lynton to The Hunters' Inn and back and visited Watersmeet. North Walk House provided the perfect base to discover some of North Devon and comes highly recomended.

Room Tip: Framboise was our room and had a large bay window overlooking the sea and a lovely chair in the bay...

Husband, Pug dog and I stayed in the Studio 29th March to 1st April. Excellent value for money at £50 per night for Easter. Very comfortable, pleasant space and lovely and warm when we arrived. All self catering needs taken care of with excellent clean facilities provided. The bed was really comfortable and we had the best undisturbed three nights sleep for some time! We have previously stayed in the hotel itself approximately 5 years ago before Ian and Sarah took over and they have done a marvellous job in the last two and half years they have been there sprucing up the property and it looks all the better for it. We will certainly book again for our next visit to Lynton & Lynmouth.
The only things on my wish list in the studio for our next visit would be an iron and ironing board and a mirror positioned somewhere close to an electricity socket for hair drying purposes and possibly a key to the main house so that we could make use of the very pleasant lounge area and open fireplace after a particularly chilly walk and to perhaps make conversation with the other staying guests. A very relaxing long weekend stay and we will certainly return to the studio as it is so ideal for a short break when taking a dog with you.

Room Tip: Studio is perfect if taking your dog with you.

This was our second visit to NWH and even though the March weather conspired against us with subzero temperatures and torrential rain, amazingly we still had a good time. This was in large part due to Ian and Sarah’s boundless hospitality.

NWH is perfectly situated on a wooded hillside on the North Devon coast path – just away from the bustle of Lynton but an easy walk to the shops and a convenient starting point for numerous dramatic and stunning circular walks. The tasteful decor (lots of stripped pine and hand-made furnishings) give the house a warm and inviting feel where you are genuinely permitted to make yourselves at home. Our bedroom had wonderful views over the Bristol Channel where the grey sea merged into an equally grey sky and large gulls soared past, coasting on the strong easterly wind. The bed was firm but comfortable with a quality duvet and crisp white linen – only the lure of one of Ian’s tasty breakfasts being sufficient to entice us to leave it each morning. As per our last visit, both the bedroom and bathroom were sparkling clean.

But we didn’t feel confined to our bedroom - Ian made up the fire in the comfy living room so we could light it on our return mid-afternoon and cosy up with a book, cup of tea and a piece of Sarah’s delicious home-made cake.

Sarah’s quite delectable cooking is what we most look forward to, prepared with mainly fresh, local ingredients and, thanks to her sensibly sized portions, you can comfortably enjoy all three courses! Ian’s ‘cellar’ provides an ample selection of wines, (local) beers / ciders and spirits to accompany. All meals are served at the long, candle-lit table in the spacious dining room where you can chat away the evening with other guests and watch the setting sun turn Countisbury Head ever deepening shades of orange, red and purple.

On the odd nights that (sadly) Sarah has off, try The Oak Room in Lynton (five minute’s walk away) for authentic tapas and friendly attentive service. You can follow this with a trip to Lynton’s tiny (68 seat) but very comfortable cinema, just across the road.

Looking forward to our next visit.....
