Woodlands is a modern and well kept guest house. We enjoyed our stay very much and definitely will go back and also recommend our friends to them. Jo and Andy are very friendly and extremely knowledgable around the Lynton area. We were always feel welcome during our stay and greatly enjoyed our freshly cooked breakfast as well as our chat in the morning with Andy and Jo.

We had a lovely 8 day stay July / August at the Woodlands. The breakfasts were perfect, Jo having established my individual preferences before I arrived and had purchased accordingly. Jo and Andy looked after us very well, were invariably helpful with good advice on where to go, where to eat or what to do. From my experience, they justly deserve the Trip Advisor accolades that they have won. Excellent.

For those who like walking Exmoor is lovely and the North Devon coast superb, even if some of the paths are exposed; (take your choice). Woodlands is a good base for such activities, with a variety of walks from the door. The views from our balcony were grand, even if not of the sea. The room had a very high standard of decoration.

Woodlands may not suit all. As they say on their website “However, our driveway is steep, so we regret to say that Woodlands is not suitable for those who suffer from severe mobility problems or children under the age of 12”. Indeed the quickest way to walk to the town (about 10 minutes) starts with the Woodlands back garden stairway of over 35 steps; having said that, the rewards are great. The Lynton ‘Valley of the rocks’ scenery is spectacular. Also, there is a fine choice of eating establishments in the town.

Top tip – remember that the cliff railway down to Lynmouth stops mid evening (about 8 pm as I recall).

Minor points

I am of the ‘princess and the pea’ school, so I noticed that the bed under the well sprung mattress was solid. Also, I use softer pillows at home. On the other hand, I am confident that many guests prefer the bed not to be too soft.

I took an electric fan with me, and used it under the warm duvet on some days (one of which the hottest* day of the year). *On the subject of warm weather however, I much appreciated that a temperature that day of 34 deg C at Heathrow equated to only 25 deg C at Lynton. I expect that the sea plays a big part in temperature moderation.

To conclude, we much enjoyed our stay. We have stayed in numerous B and Bs; Jo and Andy’s care and consideration was of the highest order.

I have stayed here twice now on a romantic, peaceful getaway with my boyfriend. Jo and andy are great hosts - very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The rooms are very spacious with big windows showing off very serene views. There is also a lovely garden where you can sit outside and have a glass of wine out the balcony. We have also seen a badger which was very exciting. Great breakfast - we had a full English breakfast, the bacon especially was delicious. The location is also ideal as its a short walk to the cliff railway, lynmouth and the valley of the rocks. The next time I visit I will definitely be staying here again!

We have just returned from a few nights at Woodlands, and we had an amazing stay! Jo and Andy are so friendly and welcoming. We stayed in Cleves room although meant to be the smallest room was amply spacious and had a stylish wetroom which also had plenty of space. This a great location to leave the car and go for long or short walks in the local area. Their are plenty of tea rooms and restaurants to dine at within a 10 minute stroll........Wildlife lovers will enjoy seeing the wide variety of birds in the garden on the feeders and the badger s...Thank you for a great de stressing stay and we look forward to our next stay.

I'm not sure I can add any more to the deservedly rave reviews here of Woodlands Guest House and its superlative hosts. We've just returned from an all-too-short 3-night stay, and have never been made to feel so welcome and 'at home' in any other accommodation, anywhere. Our knowledge of the area was fairly limited before but Andy and Jo soon remedied that, and I know know the location of most of the tea shops in a 15-mile radius of Lynton (thanks Jo - you should write a book, never mind 'Pub Walks on Exmoor' it should be 'Cream Tea Walks'!). Our room, Countisbury, was perfect, spacious and sunny with a wet-room bathroom to die for (my husband was taking photos before we left...) and it had a tiny balcony just big enough to sit and look down on the incredible number of birds on Andy's bird-feeders. We didn't go near the car until we left which was a real bonus. I think the real questions are, would you recommend to family and friends? And would you return? A resounding YES to the first, and we WILL be back! (Oh and am posting the room key to you right away. Honest...)

We have had 2 really bad stays in Lynmouth/Lynton but no more! Room excellent, en-suite wet room a bonus. Great view of valley and wildlife including the badger! Walks around here are excellent and have everything from spectacular coastal scenery to inland riverscapes and testing hills. Andy and Jo are lovely people and nothing is too much trouble. This is up there with the best. Paul and Hilary Shaw.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent but if you are lucky get one with a balcony

On arrival you will be met with a very friendly warm welcome from Jo & Andy and a lovely cup of tea. From then on nothing disappoints. Lovely rooms, fantastic location. We are experienced walkers and the area provides some of the best walks we have done - Ever.

We will definitely be back to this little hidden gem of a place. And to top it off genuine, happy and lovely hosts!!!
