“Just what we needed!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 November 2013

Stayed here for the weekend to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary. We had the family room (the cottage suite)It was a large room with beautiful beams and a bed to die for!!! The sofa was an extra bonus! There was a roll top bath with shower attached and everywhere was very clean. No sea veiw but the room over looked the valley and the gorge. The breakfasts were very good with lots of choice!!The manager and staff were very friendly and would definately recommend this hotel. The valley of the rocks is a great place to walk and Lynton and Lynmouth are nice little devon towns. We shall return!!!!

Thank you for your comments. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay. The Cottage Suite is our only room without a Sea View, but it is very large and certainly has plenty of character. We look forward to seeing you again in the future. regards Bill

After researching far and wide on the internet, pleased with our choice of getaway hotel. Proprietors obviously working incredibly hard to bring the hotel up to date, very successfully. Our room (Number 2) was perfect. newly refurbished; brand new bathroom of high quality; sea view, from bathroom, bedroom AND sitting room windows. Fabulous! Great situation to explore both Lynton and Lynmouth- a tranquil, beautiful place to visit in the autumn. Thank you William

Thank you for your comments. Our "C.S.Lewis Suite" is proving to be one of our most popular rooms, especially after the refurbishment. We are upgrading all of the bathrooms in the Hotel at present. We look forward to seeing you again in the future. regards Bill

This was just a quick night away for my wife and I and I am really pleased we chose this hotel. The room was great, really spacious and comfortable with a fantastic view. I would highly recommend booking the evening meal as the food was very good and the staff were very helpful and there when needed but not in your face, I cant stand being asked if the meal is ok every 10 mins!
So, TOP MARKS for the Lynton Cottage Hotel, and I would hope to stay longer next time.

Despite the weather (which we were prepared for!), this was a great place to stay for a weekend walking and catching up with friend from America. She was missing the Autumn colours so North Devon was perfect. We dined in the hotel one night which was great. Delicious food, good prices and very friendly staff. Breakfast was substantial with a good range of options. Our room (twin No 9) had a sea view and a nice area with comfy chairs to relax and enjoy it. It was clean, warm and the beds were really comfy. Would definitely return.

Room Tip: Renovations are underway, but what we saw was impeccably finished.

My partner and I stayed in Room 1, a traditonal four posted, spacious room with a mouthwatering view. The uneven floor and the old windows added to the personality and character. First cuppa of the day propped up on a very comfortable bed, looking at the view of the cliffs and the bay was an ideal start to any day. I found breakfast filling and everything cooked perfectly. I would highly recommend the evening meal in the hotel. We had venison and lamb - both cooked superbly. The hotel has some some beautiful interior decor and I believe some rooms are being upgraded by the new owners. Certain places have a "feel" about them and I found this felt more like a country home than a bland city hotel. Would definately return and recommend.

We were sent here by a B&B owner in Stoford. It didn't disappoint. We didn't have a booking but we were given two rooms next to each other. My 15-year-old was very happy to have a room to herself because she was sick of sharing rooms with mum and dad. The view was unbelievable. We were given a room with a lovely little balcony. The bed was a four poster, very grand. Dinner was nice but I would have paid for the view. Breakfast was lovely as well. The owner was very helpful. All in all it was a wonderful stay. If we had longer we would definitely have stayed.

Nice room view okay if you have a neck like an ostrich, bathroom absolutely terrible, although to be fair the owner did say he was up-grading it, okay but do that before charging stupid rates! Very silly rules, 7pm all sit together in the dining room, no smoking even out-side! Breakfast was terrible too, very cheap & nasty one mushroom cut into quarters, mushy baked beans, cheap tomato. cheap bread, over-cooked scrambled eggs which were cold & leathery obviously sitting around for ages! all in all this once lovely hotel has lost everything including the fab chef, who when we last stayed provided fresh home made bread, real butter, home made jams & was fantastic, now it is just all plastic, such a shame as this was once a very lovely homely warm hotel.

All feedback is useful. However, as somebody who has visited on four previous occasions, this does rather seem to be a case of a very selective memory. Your comments omit any reference to the previous "tired" condition of the Hotel, and the considerable refurbishment improvements that have been made during this summer.
Any casual search on the internet, will also show that our rates are extremely competitive, being up to 30% cheaper than other Hotels in town, whilst offering at least similar facilities. Of course the Hotel is No Smoking, as per UK Law. Smoking is permitted on the lower level of the car park, or in the gardens.
The Breakfast menu has been greatly extended to that which was previously offered.
We have brought a different approach to the Hotel, to ensure a viability of operation. This includes a more rational Dining Room service We cater exclusively for Hotel Guests, not the general public. This approach is similar to many other small Hotels in town. There are a selection of Restaurants only a couple of hundred yards around the corner, to offer an alternative. You were notified of this by email, before we accepted your booking. We have had other regular Guests return to the Hotel this summer, and the new approach has been welcomed by the majority.
We will continue to upgrade the Hotel during the Winter (including bathrooms), and seek further improvements to the facilities and services that we offer. However, if you want to smoke inside the Hotel, sit down for Dinner at 9pm and still only want to pay B&B prices for a one night stay on a Saturday, our establishment will probably disappoint. regards Bill
