A warm welcome awaited us on our arrival, and we were shown to our super large room, with a huge king size bed, which was extremely comfortable, and two comfortable chairs looking out through the french windows over the wonderful sea view. The en-suite had recently been refurbished to a high standard. It was lovely to have tea and coffee making facilities in the room, which also included hot chocolate, biscuits and a bottle of water. Breakfast was delicious and set us up for the day. The standard of cleanliness was very high, and all the friendly staff couldn't have been more helpful. We will certainly book there again.

I know Lynton well, and have stayed in several hotels during my trips to the south west. I'd always like the look of the hotel, but on previous visits it had looked somewhat run-down and seedy. I checked out the reviews and decided to give it a try.

Unfortunately the tower was covered in scaffolding, but that also meant the hotel was not too full as they weren't letting those rooms. Our room (10?) - turn left on the stairs and at the end of the corridor on the first floor was extremely well decorated, and the view from the window across the bay was fabulous. As a photographer, the camera came out immediately! The four-poster bed was very comfortable, the room was well equipped with comfortable chairs and a decent kettle on the tea/coffee tray with a good choice of drinks and biscuits, including a bottle of water.

Breakfast: good choice, well cooked and attentive staff. Usual buffet start with main course cooked to order.

We only ate dinner once at the hotel and chose the braised lamb shanks which were excellent. One slight criticism: we visited in November and the hotel was quite cold in some rooms. We moved tables in the restaurant once to get out of a draught, and the lounge was also quite cool. Wifi was only available in the lounge when we visited, although I understand that it is going to be extended around the hotel as it is refurbished.

It was also quite cool when sitting in front of the window enjoying the view in our room due to a reasonably large gap at the top where it has dropped but once it got dark and we closed the shutters and curtains, it was toasty warm.

Thoroughly recommended, and the view from the front of the hotel is one of the best in Lynton.

Room Tip: Any room on the front with a view over the bay will be excellent - we had room 10 at the end of the...

Thank you for your response. During the winter we have been continuing with extensive renovations and refurbishments. The scaffolding at the front of the Tower was notified on all our websites, but was a necessary evil that had to be done. That was all removed on 7th December leaving the new façade of the Tower complete. We are continuing to address projects such as the WIFI, which requires to be hard wired because of all the walls being 2 feet thick.
We will also be addressing doors and windows as an on going improvement project, but your comments are useful for us to assess the facilities better.
We are pleased you enjoyed your stay, and look forward to seeing you again in the future.
regards
Bill

Lovely in every way we booked this gorgeously restored and recently updated hotel for business during the extreme off season. The entire place is gorgeously refurbished with every room including the lounge feeling welcoming. Special touches like exquisite tea making facilities in the rooms made it feel like a luxury getaway not a work week. Meals were delicious and quality ingredients were evident in both the breakfast meals I had as well as the evening meal. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and even went to the effort of getting the shaving brush my colleague left behind and giving it to me to return it. I can't wait to book a weekend getaway with my husband here. Extremely good value for a reasonable price.

We wanted a nice place to stay in north Devon as a base to visit family, and after an extensive internet search I found Lynton Cottage which looked wonderful, but you never know until you arrive.
But we were very pleased on arrival, our room was lovely and a z-bed had been made up for our 5 year old son. It was dark when we arrived so we didn't see the view from our room until morning, but it was worth waiting for! The bed was huge and very comfortable, the bathroom was very nice and breakfast and dinner were also highly recommended. Our son said he didn't want to leave our 'holiday home' and could we stay.
Will definitely return.

Stayed in the Bay View suite. Lovely Four Poster bed with proper carvings, not a cheap MFI job like you get in some places. And new as well, not a squeaky old thing. Mattress ever so comfortable. We had dinner on the first night, which was well prepared, and the cheeseboard had a very good selection of local cheeses. The sea views from the room have to be the best in town. Worth every penny. Will definitely stay again. Thanks to Bill & Cita for looking after us.

Bill and Cita got it right buying this beautifully situated hotel just six months ago in June 2013. There's still work to be done as the building is tired in places, though efforts at rejuvenation are clearly ongoing, but who can deny the location, the cleanliness, organisation and attention to detail on offer?! Our room was perfect: HUGE bed, beautiful brand new bathroom, sumptuous linens, everything of good quality and well presented. Dinner was very good, I certainly recommend the venison with port and Stilton gravy. The cost was very reasonable, as were the additional expenses of dinner and drinks. Our hosts were friendly and professional, their staff very competent and pleasant. We are hoping to visit again next year, and certainly would want to go anywhere else in Lynton.

Lovely location, room with a view, great beds with spotless bedding and a massive breakfast. A family run hotel recently taken over this year. We could tell that renovations had started but as with all old properties it's going to take some time to get it ship shape, nonetheless nothing was amiss & it was very favorable in terms of value for money and being modern in the essentials such as the breakfast area and the furniture in the rooms - other hotels in Devon that I looked at were sadly lacking in this area . We stayed for two nights.

We weren't bowled over by the welcome but I'm putting that down to the hotelier having a lot on his plate as upon leaving he was pleasant and welcomed us back. At breakfast time the family run breakfast was both friendly and plentiful.

We didn't stay in the hotel much we were out and about and I don't really get people moaning about food service during the day, the village is about 100mtrs away where there are plenty of cafe's pubs and stores open.

If we were staying in Lynton again I'd definitely stay here and would be interested in seeing how the renovations progress.

Room Tip: If you want a view choose a room with a view!!! We had one of the cheaper rooms with a view and it w...

Thank you for your comments, we are pleased you enjoyed your stay. As part of our renovations for January, the smaller, cheaper rooms will be converted into Suites. The majority of our accommodation will then be rooms of a Superior grade or Suite status. We are confident this will allow us to offer amongst the best accommodation on Exmoor.
The views from all rooms except one, remain stunning.
We look forward to seeing you again in the future.
