We have stayed here before & like it very much.We were a little disappointed with our room this time but only in that we preferred one we'd had twice before.
There is quite a choice at breakfast & is excellent.

We stayed during the Easter weekend and were delighted to find that it was all we had hoped for. The view from our room was stunning looking across the coast and over the moors. I couldn't stop taking photos as the light changed and clouds softly cloaked the coastline. The room and bed was very comfortable, ( I called it the "Iris room") with a great bath and shower. The dining room opened to a lovely balcony where you could sit outside and enjoy the fabulous view. A delicious breakfast was served formally by our warm and friendly host with freshly squeezed juices and perfect eggs. Our host was also very happy to make great suggestions for walks along the coast and was full of fascinating local facts. He encouraged us to make our main dinner selections before we went out for the day, so he could ensure he could satisfy all visitors. Pre-dinner drinks and crisps were served in the lovely lounge. The dinner was generous in size, served with silver service and was full of flavour. The apple dessert was divine! Great choice of wines. We would love to return.

Room Tip: All the rooms are quiet, but choose a room looking over the coast and moors for fabulous views.

We booked in here from the Lynton tourist centre and were more than satisfied. We asked for views and it totally delivered - our room looked out over the coastline and across the water to Wales. The room was very spacious with a great bathroom with bath and powerful shower. Bed was comfy and room was quiet. We watched the changing colours of the headland as the sun set from our window with wine by the glass brought to the room with a bowl of crisps. Breakfast was fantastic and served formally with relaxed silver service and great home cooking combined with local knowledge of the area. The dinner menu looks great however needs to be booked by 11am so late arrivals can't benefit from this if only staying one day. Book dinner ahead!

We stayed here for a long weekend at the end of April and were very satisfied with our choice. The atmosphere in the hotel is traditional, quiet and relaxed and our bedroom was clean and comfortable with fabulous views. The food was excellent with its emphasis on locally- sourced produce - the lamb and beef were especially good. The location was also wonderful with its easy access to the coastal path and riverside walks. We would definitely come here again.

My wife and I have stayed at Chough's Nest many times since we went there for our honeymoon over thirty years ago. We can't decide whether we've been there eight or nine times over the years. We must like it! We would have been more except on one occasion we wanted to go it was full and on another, we had booked but were advised not to go because of the foot and mouth outbreak.
The most remarkable thing about Chough's Nest is its location, perched high above Lynmouth Bay with views across to Countisbury Hill and, on a clear day, all across the Bristol Channel to South Wales. Lynton is a great place from which to venture into Exmoor and the "English Switzerland".
Like the proverbial favourite pair of slippers, Chough's Nest is comfortable without being ostentatious; good enough to relax in. Nothing over-elaborate but everything you need for a good holiday. There are roughly nine bedrooms, all are a good size, well decorated and the beds are comfortable. Enjoy a good cooked breakfast in the dining room whilst savouring the view. If I have one gripe it is that the menu for evening dinner is a bit limited and has to be pre-booked. However, there are some really good restaurants in the twin towns of Lynmouth and Lynton to explore.
We feel very welcome at Chough's Nest and so do a lot of other guests, it seems, as many return several times. The consequence is a very relaxed atmosphere. We'll be back again.

We have just returned from a fabulous stay at the Choughs Nest. The room (no 3) was amazing with views over the bay. So comfy. John looked after us so well and even opened our champagne for us on our return from an evening out. Super breakfast. Warm and welcoming. We will return. Thank you

Stayed at the Choughs Nest for one night at the end of March 2014. It was my birthday and one night each year myself and my boyfriend look to have a night away together somewhere low key to take time out to relax . Lynton/Lynmouth was a fabulous choice and Choughs Nest fitted this perfectly. Breathtaking views from our lovely room (no 1 with 4 poster) a real home from home, could have taken the comfy bed home with me! Lovely breakfast.
Owners were really lovely and welcoming and friendly and happy to chat. Very picturesque area. Had a really nice evening meal down in Lynmouth at a place called Rock House hotel. Highly recommend
