We originally stayed here for our short honeymoon in 2008, and have been coming back ever since. The sea-views are stunning, the peace and quiet and the wonderful beds make this such a relaxing place to stay, whatever the weather is doing outside.

We particularly enjoy the food and the style of service -- on a cold winters night, sitting in front of the fire in the lounge with an aperitif, after placing your order for dinner is such a civilised way of dining.

If you like the personal touch you can get from a small family-run hotel, rather than corporate anonymity, then this is for you.

Stunning sea views make this hillside location perfect. Excellent friendly hospitality and great little touches ensure a most enjoyable and relaxing stay. Other guests also raved about the 'little gem' they had found. Steep entrance was well worth it even in the rain! Choice of dishes on the dinner menu was very unexpected but standard of food and service was superb. Free parking a great asset. Comfortable lounge and restaurant also enjoyed stunning views.

I have spent my annual two weeks of holidays in this hotel for several years running, and I always decide to come back the following year! The present owners especially run the hotel both professionelly and friendly and improved the bathrooms, the service and the food to a much better standard than the previous owner. I always feel at home and relaxed , but I also enjoy the peace of the dining room without the hassle of a buffet at breakfast time, and seldom had such wonderful dinners in the UK.
I never feel slighted because I come on my own, something I often experience when travelling in Germany or France.
I hope to return next year to this beautiful area and this lovely hotel!

Recently stayed for three nights, wish it could have been longer. Privately owned by the Hodges who are such good hosts. The whole family are welcoming and friendly running the hotel smoothly and efficiently.
Our room was spacious, nicely furnished and with an "extra king-size" bed(ie 6 foot wide) The views from our room were stunning - the sea, the Devon coast line and even Wales on a clear day. The bathroom provided masses of hot water instantly for the bath with shower over.
The meals were superb. There was a wide choice for both breakfast and dinner. It was always cooked to perfection, elegantly served and hot. Wine list was sensibly priced. There is no bar but John seemed to produce anything one required for pre-dinner drinks or later. Coffee after dinner was taken in the lounge and my wife remarked that it was the nicest she had tasted in a hotel/restaurant for years. We loved the waiting at table with silver service carried out in a relaxing way, such a refreshing change from many modern hotels who seem to favour so much of the buffet style.
I would recommend this without hesitation to anybody staying in the region and hopefully your weather will be good so that you can sit on the terrace with a drink/book and enjoy the fabulous views.

Very comfortable with great sea-views, and delicious food. The breakfast is awesome and served to your table--no fighting the buffet scrum here! Dinner was high class restaurant standard and the service was impeccable. Owners Rose and John are excellent hosts and very happy to share their intimate local knowledge to help you make the most of your stay. Very convenient for Lynton and Lynmouth and many North Devon attractions. Excellent walking area. My whole trip was a joy and it is tremendous value for money. There will definitely be more visits to the Chough's Nest! Thank you John and Rose for a memorable stay.

Just spent a great relaxing long weekend here.
The owners Rose and John were very welcoming, and knowledgeable about the local area, which made planning our days out very easy.
The hotel was spotless, comfortable beds and a view to die for. It was great laying in bed watching the sun rise over the sea.
Breakfast was superb, plenty of choice even for those non meat eaters amongst us.
Evening menus were comprehensive, well priced and the double baked souffle was superb.
I will have no hesitation in returning, hopefully in the new year

We had a lovely stay at this charming hotel. The owners Rose & John are so friendly. We were given a kingsize bed in a seaview room; the view of the sea & cliffs were breathtaking and the room was spotless. We had a dinner bed breakfast deal & the food was delicious. Service was prompt too. We'll definitely come back here again.
