“Lots of good but it might not suit everybody”
Reviewed 26 August 2011

The location and views were beautiful and the quality of food was very good. However, meal times were very limited meaning that the entire hotel was in breakfast at the same time. We were crammed in a very small dining room which was claustrophobic and the excessive attention of the staff made one feel very watched over and restricted. We felt as if we were herded around. Bedroom was also excessively cramped- we might have been the unlucky couple- but no hot water in the evenings after a day out was not really acceptable. They try too hard and cram just too many guests in but having said that, situation was fantastic.

Stayed for 4 nights in August 2011 - taking dinner on 2 nights in the hotel itself. Room was fine with good views over the Bristol Channel. Very quiet and peaceful at night. The 2 dinners we had were excellent in quality. The beef was superb!. Staff very attentive. No quibbles would go back.

We wanted a quiet stay in a comfortable hotel and we got what we wanted. The hotel is very well run, clean and the food is excellent. Lynton has a number of good restaurant and access to Lynmouth is easy as the hotel is next to the cliff railway - although don't miss the last train back as it is a long climb from sea level to the hotel.

We will return.

Great cliff top location with views to South Wales. Approach on road is narrow but worth the drive. Room on top floor has incredible views from both windows, even visible from the bed! Room pleasantly furnished with new fittings. Bathroom also newly refurbished - could do with shelving to place toiletries as mine ended up on floor. Towels and bathrobes are all good quality. My only criticisim is the communal corridors are slightly tired in places and could do with a more modern carpet. Likewise, the communal lounge was good but magazines on offer were all 12 months out of date - easy to rectify by the owners but gives an impression re attention to detail. Worth sampling one of the hot chocolates!! Wish we could have eaten in the evening in the hotel as the food comes highly recommended. Breakfasts really good and service throughout our stay was exemplary. Owners really are very pleasant people who work so hard to give a great stay to all their visitors. Walks of North Devon coast on your doorstep - really out of this world

This is a very good place to stay. Wonderful views of the sea and away from the centre of Lynton. Proprietors go out of their way to help, food is good (breakfast and supper) wine list not expensive and interesting. Will be back!

We stayed here for 3 days back in March and had a wonderful time. We arrived early but this was no problem. We were shown to our room straight away and were delighted with a four poster bed. Our room was very clean and bright and had a sea view We chose to eat at the hotel on our first night and were so glad we did. The food was fabulous and there was a good menu to chose from. On the second evening we ate out in Lynton but found this not to be as good as the hotel so we ate in the hotel again on our third night. The hosts were very knowledgeable about the local area and we were made to feel very welcome.

I stayed with my girlfriend and two dogs - The family who ran the hotel were very welcoming and professional. The food was particularly excellent, as were the wines on offer, and the views were spectacular. The rooms and facilities were very good and the local countryside was stunning.
