“Hotel tired and in need of some TLC”
Reviewed 29 March 2014 via mobile

Location fantastic for town centre and parking for us was ok. Staff very polite and helpful. Hotel in desperate need for a revamp as very tired and old fashioned. We managed to get our room when 50% sale was on so room good for the money. However at full price, we would not assess this as good value for money and would have been disappointed. Breakfast is poor and would not recommend as sausage cheap and nasty, bacon no real taste. Most hotels these days source their breakfast using local produce but this all seemed to come from a mass catering company. We hope the hotel gets a revamp soon as the location is perfect for getting around plymouth.

Stayed for just one night, arriving later, so possibly didn't get the best impressions of the hotel, but here is my view anyway.

Room - Reasonably comfortable bed, lighting in the room poor with dull yellow bulbs proliferating, partially illuminating the 80's decor. Bathroom much the same, but with a powerful shower.

Public Areas - Depressing. Faded and chipped pictures fixed to the 80's swirl wallpaper. The carpets were faded and at a lot of joints held together by black tape. Furniture in the bar and restaurant also chipped and faded, and not welcoming. Whilst the hotel generally appeared to be clean, it must be difficult to keep the place looking clean when the carpets and furniture are so old.

Breakfast - Good to Average. Watery fruit juice, anaemic looking croissants (tasted OK though). Big positive was the cooked breakfast, cooked to order which was delivered quickly, perfectly cooked and served by a smiling waitress.

Car Parking - Pricing designed to get maximum payment out of you. I arrived late (10.50pm), and departed early (7.10am), but this still counted as 2 days parking, because it was over two separate days, so at 7.50 per day, i was charged £15, working out at £1.80 per hour for overnight parking. Given that most people must arrive in an evening and depart in the morning, their pricing does seem to maximise income revenue for the hotel, rather than being resonable for the location.

When i mentioned the conditions of the hotel on check out, i was told that some room are undergoing refurbishment. Unfortunately these are not the public rooms, so unless this changes then the hotel is always going to look rather run down and uninviting, which is a shame as the people i met who worked there seemed friendly enough, and there was certainly a lot of them by comparison to the number of guests that i saw.

Its a shame that the Millennium hotel chain are letting down their guests and employees with a hotel that is as dated as this.

I have to agree with a lot of other reviews on here. The hotel is so tired it is in desperation of a complete re vamp. By decorating rooms as you go, has left you open to have negative reviews such as you have. Maybe closing it down and having a new grand opening would have saved your reputation.....
Yes the staff were very helpful and friendly and provided us with excellent customer service. We opted to change rooms in hope that the second choice was going to be a lot better. Unfortunately this was not so.
This was a very special occasion for us, and we were looking forward to celebrating in style. This was not the case as it made you feel grubby!!
We have however stayed in many other surrounding hotels that are far more superior and far more better value for money.
Are we going to return? NOT IN THE NEAR FUTURE!

Other reviewers are right to point out that this hotel is a little shabby around the edges, but the good staff service made up for that when I stayed. Parking was a little cramped on my visit - I ended up on the pavement - but I don't think they charged me for it in the end, which was very kind.

The restaurant was pleasant and I had a nice evening meal and a glass of wine, with a hearty breakfast as well.

There were two good things about this hotel:

The staff.
The ceiling fan in our room (Even though it was dated it was very much needed in this stuffy room)

The worst thing about this hotel is it was just SO dated! Very 80's.
The bed was a fold down one out of the wall and soooo small - almost like a single and half!
It was clean but when furniture is this old it never looks or feels clean.
Basically all I can say is the rooms need gutting and everything replacing!

The bathroom was terribly dated too - and there was a disgusting shower curtain that stuck to you - YUCK.
I even left it open to try and ovoid this happening but it still did it.
I ended up just not closing it at all and flooding the bathroom. Then threw the towels down to soak up the water.

Would I stay here again? NO!

Dear Guest

May I offer our apologies that you have not had a pleasant stay with us. We are aware that the Hotel is in need of some modernisation. We are currently working on improving décor in several of the rooms.

We pride ourselves on delivering a high level of customer service and are glad this seems to have been the case for you. Hopefully in the near future, when more refurbishment has been completed you will return to give us another try at delivering good service and a better product.

Many Thanks,
Carly Hobbs,
Reception Shift Leader.

Comfortable bed for a change, the room very good all the usual supplies but you had to be careful of the shower as it could get very hot, as my hubby found out.
Finding this hotel was a bit tricky look for the Jury Inn and your getting near, although the receptionist was very helpful when we rang to ask for directions.

Stayed here as the hotel we used in the past was fully booked, we will now use the copthorne each time we visit Plymouth, staff at reception were great made you feel very welcome ,had a bit of banter with I think it was David who was telling me I reminded him of jimmy greaves ,this made for a great start as reception engaged in conversation and made us feel welcome
