……good in parts.

Stayed for one night in late April. Prior to visit I looked on Google earth street view to familiarise myself with the area. Glad I did as it might have been difficult to find the underground car park entrance at the rear.

The shutter was lifted at the press of a button giving access to a cramped parking area with about 40 spaces, much manoeuvring needed to get in one.

Friendly welcome at reception with a quick efficient check in. We declined booking an evening meal as we were attending a birthday party later. We were told the times for breakfast and that there was an offer of “Two for £15”

Paid the parking charge and asked about leaving/returning to the car park later. Was told that it was no problem but that parking was on a “first come, first served” basis.

Paying £7 50 to take part in a parking “lottery” is a rip off. Once paid for, a space should have been ours for the day/night. By 7 30 the car park was full.We opted to take a taxi to the party to preserve our space as looking for alternative parking at midnight did not appeal.

(Taxi company 222222 were prompt, reliable and not expensive, other companies are available.)

Wifi was available at £5/night. What! Enough for one night but if you were there for a week …..£30!!! I think these days it ought to be free. Opted out.

Room was fine, clean and not cramped, as was the “en suite”, and the large tv worked ok.

We were on the fourth floor with a view over a car park and much of Plymouth beyond. We thought the wind noise was due to the atrocious weather conditions outside. In the morning we found that the vent above the window was broken and had been covered with black duct tape. This hermetic seal had failed and had it not been for the heavy curtains the room could have been used for wind tunnel testing.

That said, even though no heating was on, the room was not cold and we had a good night.

Went down for breakfast and were told we needed a voucher. Returned to reception to purchase one and was told £8 95 each. Queried this, the receptionist knew nothing of the offer, but immediately gave us two £8 95 vouchers for £15.

Breakfast was fine. Inspite of the sign saying that it was now only cooked to order, a complete range of full English was available in hot containers on a help yourself basis. Cold breakfast was also offered. Later we noted that the full price was £11 95 each. Wouldn’t have wanted to pay that much.( Oggy Oggy’s pasty house nearby offers full English for £3 99. )

For a one nighter it was acceptable. Price seems reasonable until you add in the parking, wifi, and breakfast. Might stay again but would probably check out the competition.

Room Tip: Only experienced one room on the top floor.

Have stayed twice and both times got the same impression. Friendly, efficient staff. Nice bedrooms, comfortable and large. I can't say if all bedrooms are good quality and refurbished, but mine have been. The more public areas, especially the bar and restaurant, are quite shabby and dark, not very inviting really. On both occasions the restaurant has been almost empty. I ate in the restaurant on this occasion and did not enjoy the meal - however, this was handled well and I was offered an alternative. Good service overall, but the public areas really need refurbishing.

I stayed for just a single night there. Best part about the hotel is it's proximity to the town centre and train station. The hotel staff were quick to help me to my room. The room itself is pretty old but is has the necessities. Overall not too bad but wasn't a particularly good stay.

Did a late booking and got a deal with breakfast included. Room was upgraded so we had a fridge which we used for our own alcohol. Huge crack in sink, ugh we did not use it. Bed very comfy but seemed small to us. Tight squeeze in the underground car park, could not get in three of the parking bays. Major let down on breakfast...... tea was luke warm, thick toast squashed into a toast rack so it was soggy. My husband asked for no baked beans as he hates them. Plate came out with beans on. Sent back and plate returned with no tomato and only half a slice of black pudding! Tomatos were cold and hard, sausages grissley, bacon was only cooked on one side ( 1 rasher!) and lukewarm. Mushrooms tasted old and were lukewarm as was the hash brown. The only thing cooked and hot was the fried egg. Appauling and the worst breakfast I have ever had. I complained and on checking out they refunded the £7.50 parking fee.
Staff were very helpful and friendly on reception. We would not go back though.

Room Tip: We got a free room upgrade so had a fridge in the room. We were on the otherside from Sainsbury's so noise not too bad.

The room and meal service were excellent, but what particularly impressed me was the friendliness, efficiency, and helpfulness of the staff, even when we made special requests. I was highly impressed. The location is good, too only a short walk from the station.
