“not bad for the money”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

Stayed for one night only, not the greatest looking from the outside but rooms are clean with all facilities that you would want, linen towels and beds nice . Parking available too.
I personally had a room overlooking the traffic lights and found it yo be very noisy, also a l if noise from other guests going too and from there rooms, would recommend ear plugs.
Overall found the room rate goo value.

We chose the new continental hotel for our wedding because it was close to the registry office, because it was close to town but also because the hotel gave us a great wedding package deal, red carpet on entry, a good meal deal, drinks for our guests in the package, the ambiance was good and the function suite was spot on, also a 4 poster bed for us the evening of our wedding so Sue and I would like to thank all the staff off the hotel, Bobbie the hotel director for having us, being patient with us and whose expertise and delegation helped make our wedding day be perfect, to George for being our host, the kitchen staff and chefs, etc. for excellent food and plenty of it, Betty and her gang for their excellent table service, the front of house staff for being so helpful, So Thank you all for everything We recommend the new continental Hotel to everyone. ten out of ten. Sue and Alex Percy

Staff excellent and nothing is to much trouble. Thanks
Large rooms with stylish bath/shower with all the trimmings
Beds comfortable with great pillows
Breakfast limited but good
Bar bright and well stocked
Sports club at rear with pool, so nice dip in the morning
Can't fault as nearly £50 cheaper than similar

My partner and I stayed the New Continental Hotel for two nights in August.
The hotel is easy to find and is well situated with free, secure on-site parking.
The double room was of a decent size and was clean and tidy. As others have noted, the decor of the rooms is very dated, but the bed was comfortable enough and the shower was better than in most 'budget' priced hotels.
The only issues were that the toilet took a long time to refill after each flush and that the room was hot and stuffy. There is no air con, although the room did have a fan.
There is a bar and restaurant but we ate elsewhere.
All in all, the hotel is average. Comfortable enough for the £70 a night price bracket but in need of rejuvenation and modernisation.

Stayed overnight at the New International last week. The hotel exterior does look a little sad but everywhere inside was well cared for. The breakfast was excellent and the staff first class. We had read a review about a grumpy receptionist and asked our very helpful and pleasant receptionist who it was. She said it was her! Certainly not the case so do take everything you read with a pinch of salt!

We stayed here for a couple of nights this week taking advantage of the little one being on holiday with the school so we had chance to have a few days relaxing. On arrival the receptionist was excellent and very friendly, room was clean whilst the hotel is a little dated it was very clean, cleanliness is more important to me than anything else! Our room didn't have an inspiring view but we were not there to sit looking out the windows so again not problematic, we booked this through a discount site and only saw some of the mixed reviews later, I accept some travellers may not be impressed but you can't please everyone!! Whenever travelling we never pay for breakfasts as it's always much better value to eat elsewhere ( there is a Weatherspoon's opposite).Although we booked this hotel for it's leisure facilities we didn't use them so can't comment on them, we were having too good a time in Plymouth to spend a lot of time at the Hotel. Car park is not in the best of condition, it is only £3.00 a day though, we weren't even charged for this which was a nice bonus. Worst part for me was the large graffiti on the back wall, if approaching from the car park this is your first impression of the Hotel - note to owners - get it cleaned off, does spoil the initial impression of your Hotel! In relation to the heat, we stayed when it was hot and the ceiling fan and large opening window were ample to keep the room cool. Personally would have liked a mini bar in the room as the bar is only open until 11.00 pm. We were on holiday after all! Would we stay again, yes, it's clean and has good staff, what more do you want!!! One other thing for the owners to note on a service level, if you have a lot of elderly guests visiting why not get them escorted to their rooms and show them how to use the key card room entry, we had to assist three guests in obtaining entry to their rooms which didn't mind doing at all ( lovely irish OAP's) but if the Hotel had done this it would have enhanced the service received. As a smoker, I went down late one night for a cigarette before going to sleep ( why no cigarette butt bin - butt ends all over the floor - again first impressions) stood outside smoking and there was an abundance of Police and Ambulances passing with sirens going, made me glad to have an inner room. Wifi worked very well, towels changed daily, though did have to nip to Primark as I'm a big lad and use two bath towels when showering, haven't stayed in many Hotels that only give you one - another note to owners?. Overall a nice hotel, pleased to recommend it and whilst I am sure there are better Hotels in Plymouth none are going to always be perfect, the staff make or break a Hotel and the staff here were excellent, even down to the Cleaners who all wished me a Good Morning with a bright smile on one of my early morning cigarette trips. Bed was not saggy baggy or too soft- i slept like a baby.I personally think some of the reviews on here are unfair but we all look for different things in the places we stay, for me it has to be clean with good staff and in this respect it ticked the boxes. The location is superb for walking in to the Harbour.

Room Tip: If you are not fussed about a view go for an inside room so you can't hear the Police/Ambulance...

Just returned from a 1 night stay at this hotel (27th/28th July). There were 5 of us, Three Adults and 2 Children (16) and (14). We had two rooms (106) which was a single room and (102) which was a family room. The family room was huge with one double bed and a single bed in and another room with two single beds in, bathroom was massive, very clean. Towels were a bit on the small side but clean and plenty of them.

The single room was also very nice but was a little hot.

Breakfast in the morning was freshly cooked and very nice.

The pool, sauna and steam room were clean and nice and the changing room very clean.

The staff at reception were excellent and very helpful.

we didn't eat dinner there so cannot comment on that.

would definitely stay there again, it was only a mile from the Barbican sea port.

A big thank you to the staff who took pictures for us and let us photocopy some documents

thank you

Steve

Room Tip: Ask for Room 102 if with 4 or 5... plenty of room
