“Beautiful cottages, fantastic hospitality”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2014 via mobile

My young son and I stayed for a week in July. Stunning location with very well equipped and extremely comfortable cottages. Felt like a home, not a holiday rental. Freshly baked scones on arrival with homemade jam. We got to feed the ponies, wander the farm and collect fresh eggs from the chicken coop. My son even got to ride on the quad bike with the owner. Will definitely be back. Highly recommend. Note - lanes to the farm are very narrow!

Had a fantastic stay at the farm. The cottages are beautiful and comfortable with everything you need. The bedrooms were very relaxing with extremely comfy beds with a lovely skylight for star watching at night and bird watching in the morning. Beautiful location, was nice to explore the farm and visit the chickens, lambs, pony's etc. The chickens were walking around the farm freely and loved to come and visit you. Cathy made the stay very welcoming, whilst we sat out in the sunshine we had freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam brought over to us! Would definitely stay here again! Thank you for a fantastic break!

Room Tip: All cottages we saw were beautiful!

Booking the accommodation was a good indication as to what to expect; all contact was very efficient helpful and informative.

The cottages 'we stayed in Pitty Park and Well Park Cottages; both were clean, spacious and well appointed. Everything we needed was inside the cottage. The bedrooms were all smart clean and comfortable and the heating system was very effective.

Over and above our expectation in every way and the additional complimentary scones and roses were very much appreciated.

The farm is excellent and we were able to let our children wander around (provided they followed the rules politely laid down by the proprietors). Cathy and everyone else involved with the cottages were pleasant and welcoming. All the farm pets, ponies, chickens etc etc are user friendly! It has a wonderful atmosphere.

Highly recommend this accommodation and we will definitely be staying there again.

Tiny little comment for consideration; if you are travelling out of season i.e. when the weather is "extreme" you would need a 4wd to get to the accommodation; we encountered flooded roads and they would have been impassable without high 4wd vehicles.

My family and I booked to stay at Oldaport Farm. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly and had a lovely welcome from the owner. The cottages are extremley clean, spacious, warm and cosy. The decor was beautiful and well kept. The children (2 and 4 yrs) had a great time marching around the paddock exploring the ducks, geese, chickens. We were allowed to walk throughout the farm, exploring the sheep and the children even spent time petting and feeding the cute Shetland ponies! The animals are clearly well loved, the farm is extremley clean. Each morning one of the horses (called Jack) got taken for a ride, and we enjoyed him coming past our cottage window.
The kitchen has all required ameneties - microwave, oven, hob, fridge, freezer, large dining table, storage space, all crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils were supplied. One wonderful and pleasent surprise, when coming back to the cottage we found a large plate of home baked scones with traditional devon clotted cream and Jam supplied - yum!!
The owner is extremley friendly, happy to share her local knowledge and willing to help if needed.
Oldaport is located a very short drive to Modbury village, and near several great beaches. We even took the car to Noss Mayo which has a beautiful walk near by.

All in all - it was a top spot and we will DEFINITELY be returning. Thumbs up on all areas, and ideal for anyone wanting to visit south Devon whether it's for work, business, family, friends or solo reasons (drive to Plymouth is only about 30 mins)

Our family took over Oldaport Farm, Nr Modbury, Devon.

What an outstanding place. We were celebrating a significant birthday and an opportunity to meet up with our children and Grandchildren.

The place is brilliantly located for visits, there is outstanding cottages, brilliant walks on the farm (mainly pedigree sheep and Shetland ponies, but were some cute ducks and pheasants too) . We found that the place is on an old Roman fort, the views all around are beautiful.
There are a number of beaches, great farm walks, Modbury is only a few minutes away for shopping, or Plymouth is less than 20 miles away.

All the accommodation is of a very high standard, there is everything you need for a holiday, great smelling soap, crisp, clean linin, fully kitted out kitchen, large TV with video and DVD player, book for those quiet nights…. the list goes on and on.

The owner, Cathy, is really nice and you will find a welcoming ‘cream tea’ when you arrive – we chose a Cornish cream team, Jam first and then cream on the top! We forgot our boots and Cathy was about to lend us a few pairs, but please don’t expect this!

We intend to return and so do two others from our party – exceptional.

Room Tip: Arrive in day light, it is easier to find the farm which is about 2 miles off the main road

All four cottages were cosy, very clean and well equipped, the kitchen was brand new and contained everything you might need except a dishwasher. Every cottage had a TV/DVD-player and a stereo. The general atmosphere on the farm was very familiar and friendly, the owner extremely helpful. All children loved it because they were free to visit the sheep, ponies and chickens. Driving was a bit difficult because the farm can only be reached on very narrow single-track lanes. We didn't find a footpath to the beach, which is only 1.5 miles away, so we had to use the car most of the time.

  • Liked — familiar atmosphere, the animals
  • Disliked — no footpath to the beach
