“The best in town”

I first went to stay at the Invicta when I went to work in Plymouth back in 2004. I stayed there during weekdays for just over a year. The hotel is family owned and run, the staff are friendly and often go out of their way to help the guests, the rooms are lovely and the restaurant is very good. During this time I struck a long and lasting friendship with the owners and try to pop babck for visits when ever I can. I would recommend this hotel above others in the area.

My sister and I had a wonderful stay at the Invicta over Christmas. The rooms were comfortable and nicely furnished, the food served for Christmas dinner in the dining room was excellent and the hospitable family who owned the hotel went out of their way to make sure that we were comfortable. I would definitely recommend this hotel for business or leisure.

I would normally stay in 'corporate' accommodation whilst on business but have used this hotel, on and off for over five years, for both business and personal reasons. These 'stays' include a two year full-time period whilst managing a project in a local business and my recent honeymoon.

During that time I've seen the present owners invest a huge amount of time and money into transforming this hotel into a well decorated and meticulously clean property incorporating the latest technology.

The improvements are always on-going but the majority of bedrooms are now individually decorated to an extremely high standard including new beds, power showers, flat screen tv's and free internet access.

Couple this with the friendly family atmosphere, reasonable rates and central location and you have an unbeatable combination and I haven't even mentioned the first class English breakfast?!?!?!

Booked direct with the hotel, very helpful when asked about access to Plymouth City Centre & The Pavillions both are flat easy walking distance in under 10mins. Nice clean hotel staff very helpful & polite nothing to much trouble, our room was very light and airy and decorated to a high standard. Breakfast is cooked to order so I got my egg as I liked it :-) we will be booking here again.

I stayed here for a week with my husband and children, and found the staff to be friendly and very helpful, food was first class, fast and served hot. Rooms were clean and airy very comfy. Menu had an excellent choice, breakfasts were freshly cooked and first class. My son is a picky eater, and they were flexible with his requests. First class, I cant recommend this hotel enough! Nothing was too much trouble!

  • Liked — I liked the warm welcome we received from the staff.
  • Disliked — Our holiday seemed to fly by! Wish we could have stayed longer.

Tried booking via Laterooms. Something made me worried about the booking so I phoned the Hotel direct to be told that despite what the Laterooms said they did not have the availability (good job I phoned), but they were able to offer me sufficient alternative rooms. Parking was limited, 10 places I counted and that included for staff cars and a skip. The staff were welcoming and friendly. I noted that the owner was having an identical telephone conversation about Laterooms vs availability to the one I had had before. The rooms were comfortable but small with quite dark wallpaper making everything appear more cramped. I was looking forward to the breakfasts after having read the reviews but was sadly disappointed. Yet again there was only one member of waiting staff who was overwhelmed, eventually being helped out by a cleaner. The breakfasts were poorly cooked (scrambled egg being dry and on stale toast) almost to the point of being inedible and cold due to the waiting staff not being able to serve it in time. When the breakfast rush had finished and the waitress and the cleaner had finally got on top of things the manager finally looked in to see how things were going and immediately sat down for his own breakfast. In summary, the hotel was clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly but I found the rooms claustrophobic and the food inadeqate. I possibly would stay there again but not for that price and only if there were not tried and trusted alternatives available.
