“Wonderful location and great service.”
Reviewed 10 September 2012

We had our daughter's wedding reception here on 1st September 2012 and the day was perfect from start to finish. The staff at this fabulous hotel couldn't have been more helpful and everything ran so smoothly. As we had exclusive use of the hotel many of the guests stayed in the 17 individual rooms available. The service and quality of the food was exceptional and many of the lovely rooms have been refurbished and have wonderful views over the glorious gardens although hairdryers in the rooms would certainly be helpful and to some a necessity! The stunning location is just a mile from Wembury beach and 15 minutes car journey from Plymouth. This beautiful period hotel has a warm and friendly atmosphere and we shall certainly return to sample the superb food and hospitality again.

Room Tip: A superior or premier room is well worth the extra money as they are large and many of them have won...

After a long journey from London my friend and I arrived late and despite being part of the wedding party that was being held the next day, we were told there was no booking, we decided to just get a free room and sort it out it the morning. The first room offered to us was to be used for the bridal party to get ready in the morning so were told not to unpack within 5mins the had a found another room located at the top of the hotel with two single beds pushed together and one without a mattress! Not what you expect for £109! This was sorted very quickly and we did receive a free drink. There was no hairdryer in our room and the tv had no signal at all. I personally love the decor and think it suits the period of the house. The gardens are beautiful and the location stunning. May stay again if the price was reduced to better reflect the service.

We paid £159 for one night and the room and the decor were okay with a nice thick wool carpet, but it was a bit dirty. There was a carpet in the bathroom which was a bit unusual, considering people do get wet in bathrooms and to maintain a high level of hygiene it would have to be constantly dried and cleaned.
We found a moth next to the curtains and the window ledges were a bit dusty.
It was a nice old manor house but parts of it were tired and in in need of further refurbishment. The food and service were a bit sloppy and, after paying that kind of price, we would have expected better than a 'help yourself to the plates of vegetables' type of table service.
For the price we paid we would have expected a lot more.

Room Tip: Nowadays you would have expected a swimming pool or a firness centre if you were paying this sort of...

We stayed at the Langdon Court a few years ago and loved it. Last week we went back with friends and had a superb meal. We will be back again as we all love this quirky and beautiful hotel.

We recently attended a family wedding at Langdon Court and what a disappointment. The food was very poor and the service extremely bad.

We have e mailed the hotel with a list of our complaints, but have not even had an acknowledgement from them. Unfortunately, for Langdon Court the word is going around that the food/service is bargain basement at best.

The decoration needs a facelift too, if we had wanted tired and outdated furnishing we would have gone to a museum.

We stayed at Langdon Court as we had friends holding their wedding reception there and had also booked out most the hotel for guests. The hotel itself is pretty impressive, lots of nooks and crannies befitting of an old manor house, which on later research appears steeped in history (Catherine Parr once held it).

I think we had one of the executive suites (kindly upgraded by the bride and groom!), which was stunning. A massive 4-poster bed, comfy window seats and a large bathroom, with a freestanding bath in the middle of it. The views were also fantastic.

The wedding meal was a bit crammed in, I think there was 60 or so guests, and the layout meant that there wasn't a lot of elbow room, but no matter, the food was lovely and the wine flowed.

The bar was a tad pricey, as with most hotels really, so any lager drinkers should avoid the Peroni unless they want a sizeable dent in their wallets as that was touching £5 a pint! The real beer was more reasonably priced.

The breakfast was again lovely, and much needed after an evening of excess.

The staff were really friendly and very helpful, even locating a spare cufflink after one of mine fell apart just prior to the festivities.

All in all, very good, would have been more if they sort out their bar prices!

Oh, and look out for the plethora of horns and game heads adorning the walls...the moose head is something else!
