“Easter Sunday lunch”
Reviewed 2 April 2013

The food was excellent and the TWO staff were friendly and helpful.
Sadly the decor and furnishings were very tired and needs some TLC.
We were shown into the conservatory for lunch (which was lacking in atmosphere, and the only decor was limp net curtains, and NO VIEW), which leads me to question why, when the dining room with beautiful views over the patio and golf course was empty!
What a diference it would have made to us all, to have eaten in there. Perhaps it was too much trouble!
There were 16 people having lunch whilst we were eating, so enough I would have thought to have made an effort.
Come on Elfordleigh, you have a wonderful location and property, perhaps you should call in the 'Hotel Fixer' Alex Polizzi to rescue you.

We have just returned after a 3 night stay at The Elforleigh Hotel near Plympton in Plymouth.
Booked through Late Rooms.Com and got 3 nights for the price of 2.

Arrived in the middle of a torrential down pour and parked right outside the front door.
Really friendly and helpful staff on arrival who went into full details on the hotel and its facilities.

Large ensuite room with views over the golf course. Even though the weather was freezing the room was really warm. The bathroom was fitted with what felt like a power shower and was never short of hot water. TV had all free channels with the added bonus of Sky channels for nothing. Tea and coffee facilities provided each day with room cleaned and fresh towels.

Great facilities and used the gym, pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi every day, all included in the price. The staff at the spa were very helpful and everything in the gym was spotless and all equipment well serviced and all working.

We ate in the bar area each evening and the food was excellent with well priced beer.

Breakfast was between 8 and 10 and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The full English was cooked spot on and served with tea/coffee/juice and toast.

We had a cracking stay and will definately be staying again.

Many thanks

We stayed here 23/03/2013 for one night to celebrate our wedding anniversary, we booked the room last minute the night before. My husband contacted the hotel directly to book and advised them it was our wedding anniversary, the hotel arranged flowers, chocolates and a bottle of wine on my husbands request for an additional £45.00. The flowers were beautiful, the bottle of white wine was lovely as well as the chocloates. We ended up having a family room with a huge queen size bed plus an additional single bed, the room was large and light and airy very neutral in decor, it overlooked the beautiful green golfing range, the hotel was very peaceful. We had a 3 course set menu for dinner which was nice, the portions are ala carte so quite reserved but the quality of the food was nice, the hungarian waiter was very hospitable and provided a good service. My husband had a full english breakfast in the morning which he siad was nice this also included helping yourself to as much toast and you liked plus there was fruit, yoghurts and cereal if you also wanted that, they also had a vegetarian breakfast on the menu which i ordered which was very nice. The only negative i would say is that the set dinner menu should have a vegetarian option as its only meat or fish on the menu, i eat fish so i had the salmon but not all vegetarians eat fish. We also used the spa facilities which consist on a indoor pool, sauna, steam room and a jacuzzi which was all very good. I would stay here again, it is definitely a good 3 star hotel i think if some of the decor was up to date it would be headed for a 4 star, very good service and a relaxed tranquil environment. A big thanks to the staff who arranged the flowers, wine and chocs at short notice, lovely place would recommend.

Room Tip: Family rooms are very large.

Lovely day, so headed to the Elfordleigh for a bar snack and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the fayre on offer. The bar itself lacks atmosphere - pretty spartan, but clean and spacious - even when a horde of golfers descended (traditional hazard in a golf club!) Service was polite and prompt and prices were good. Presentation was also excellent - my pork fillet in jus was very appetising and the lemon tart was a refreshing treat. Great coffee too - so this watering hole is worth a visit.

I stayed here for work although the hotel is a golf resort and seems to have a very nice course in lovely surroundings. I wouldn't normally choose to stay in this type of hotel and found myself booked here through work. The hotel is old and has the usual signs of old age such as shabby paintwork and dodgy decor although a benefit is the size of the rooms, in my case massive! Despite my misgivings I found the experience pleasant; the room was clean, well equipped and the staff were very friendly and eager to please. The food was very good in the bar for dinner and breakfast was excellent although the toaster on the buffet was very slow (staff were happy to cook toast in the kitchen to speed things up). Overall I was happy with my stay and would recommend the Elfordleigh as long as you were not expecting the clinical style of a modern hotel.

Reviewed 28 February 2013

I stayed here on a business trip end of February 2013. All in all had a pleasant stay, and thought the value for money was very good. The welcome was ok, could of been warmer, a big smile always makes you feel more welcome, but, it was efficient at least. Was given directions to my room, leisure club etc.
On inspection, the room was clean, comfy and had everything I needed. The furniture is a little dated and this would turn the 4 stars into 5 for me.
Tried the gym, and leisure complex. Sauna wasnt working- shame, but everything else was working, and was nice and clean etc. The hotel provided towels, and a locker key so didnt even need the obligitory £1 coin you normally have to take!
After the swim, back to the room for a shower- i thought the bathroom and shower was the highlight of the room, modern, very clean and all in good working order.
I ate in the bar from the table dhote menu, and thought everything I ate was enjoyable. The portions were strangely small for some things, and big for others. I sat with some friends and we wondered why the lamb came with no carbs at all, but everything else came with plenty of carbs. Weird- and one of our party was left hungry as a result.
Food and Drinks were reasonably priced.
Breakfast next morning was ample, nicely cooked, but with really rubbish- cheap baked beans. They looked like they had been sieved first they were that bitty. The rest was very nice. Good continental selection too. All in all- good stay, well priced friendly staff.

Room Tip: try get one with a view of the golf course

Nice location , especially if you enjoy golf, brilliant that you can use all the gym facilities too which includes swimming steam room, slightly disappointed that the sauna wasn't working though. Polite staff, well recommended.
