I don't play golf, have no ambition to play golf, and don't suppose I ever will play golf, but boy, what a find The Elfordleigh Hotel and Golf Club was. The golf course is a must. Not for hitting silly little balls into tiny holes but to walk around and gasp at the amazing views of the superb Devonshire countryside. A friendly staff, very well appointed rooms, and as good an English breakfast as I have eaten endorsed the feel-good atmosphere of this former country estate. Fabulous leisure facilities, pet friendly, great dog walks within woodland trails on the estate. I have already booked my second visit and I don't even own a dog! Ticks all the boxes for me - oh, and on the off-chance you do play golf you will be in heaven all the way to the 19th hole!

Room Tip: Having only stayed in one I couldn't comment!

Despite having changed my mind several times of bedroom from double to twin back to double they were very happy to oblige and further more at my request it was ground floor stayed just one night didn't dine at the Restaurant as I was joining a friend for a Murder Mystery event nearby and
had a meal at the venue which wasn't very good wish I had dined at the Elfordleigh was the best breakfast I've had in any hotel had a really good rate on a Premier room very spacious plus breakfast was included looking forward to visiting again and this time will be having dinner in the Restaurant the 3 course meal was very reasonable with a wide choice of meals didn't have enough time to explore the Spa thinking of having a pampering weekend spoil myself

Thank you for your review. We were surprised to hear your report regarding opening a bottle of wine as all the staff have had on going triaining in food and beverage sevice. Any new members of staff will have training to make sure their skills are updated in this area. A mattress can be changed over if requested by the guest. We have different mattresses on the beds in the rooms to accommodate everyones taste. We find if the mattress is too dard or soft Housekeeping can easily change over to the guests requirment. We hope to see you again at the Elfordleigh and would hope to more than meet your expectations.

We stayed here during graduation week for 1 night, booked through Laterooms. The family room was very spacious for three adults and clean, we had a lovely walk around the golf course and enjoyed a freshly cooked breakfast. We found the staff friendly and helpful. The hotel is slightly dated but we found it to be good value for money and would recommend it - the rating should really be better than average at 'Good'. It's also dog friendly, although they don't advertise this as much as they perhaps should. On the down side the bar drinks were a bit expensive especially for a glass of wine. Can't comment on the restaurant as we ate out in Plymouth. Anyone taking their dog who wants to leave it during the day should check out Kirsty at Plymouthpetsitters.co.uk who lives nearby - she looked after ours while we attended the graduation ceremony and he obviously liked her.

Lovely hotel in beautiful setting - surrounded by the golf course and a on-site leisure club with gym and swimming pool.
Unfortunately the stay was let down by the quality of the food provided. First night the raspberries were still frozen and the carrots were still very hard, second night the vegetables were grossly over cooked. The third night the lamb was inedible due to the amount of grizzle and fat. The last night's food was very good though! I settled for the burger and chips! The staff did try to help as much as they could but after a hard days work, you need is good food.

Room Tip: Beautiful views from the Windsor Room - can be a bit noisy if there is a function on though.

We are sorry to hear your comments about the food at the hotel. Head Chef is aware of the problem and will ensure this does not happen again in the future.
There have been a lot of positive comments about the quality and value for money regarding the food on offer at the Elfordleigh and as we have a very talented and experiened brigade of chefs were quite surprised to hear your comments. We hope you will return to the Elfordleigh and find the quality more than meets your expectations.

Stayed here a couple of weeks ago and was very enjoyable. Spa was excellent (great facial)- read all the negative reviews and they seem ridiculous when you think how good value the place was. Do these people have a life? The staff were great and the food was excellent, both evening and breakfast. Shame more people haven't discovered it.

We got a great deal on this hotel. It is set in a beautiful location and the grounds include a lovely golf course. The room was huge ( a family room ) We made use of the pool and spa facilities and the breakfast in the morning was lovely. The staff were very attentive. I would recommend this hotel anytime.
