We booked this through one of their partner sites, who had made a mistake on a description of the reserved room but this was not a problem as the lady behind the reception desk (Hannah i think) was more than happy to upgrade our room at no extra charge, as a gesture of good will. The hotel is set in 100 acres of peaceful grounds, and has a lot of character. Everything about our experience was really good. Decor in the rooms was to a high standard, with a view over the golf course, bed was comfortable and their breakfast menu had a lot to offer. I don't quite understand some of the bad reviews on here, but our overall experience certainly made us look forward to visiting again in the future.

I stayed here with my girlfriend at the start of the year and had a wonderful time. The premier room I booked was excellent, the food and wine was lovely and the staff were extremely helpful.

However, what let this experience down was that ex-partner, who is a friend of one of the receptionists in the hotel, was informed about my stay in the hotel. Worse still, upon complaining about this serious breach of professional conduct, my complaint was ultimately dismissed and brushed under the carpet.

So as long as you don't mind the staff telling people about your stay, I would highly recommend the Elfordleigh

I have stayed here twice, once as a couple for a wedding and once for a 'girly weekend'. It was only whilst on the girls trip that I noticed how the wedding guests take over! For example we were enjoying a quiet lunch and glass of wine on the terrace when the whole place filled up with wedding guests and we were left feeling a little awkward. There was a similar experience being the only non wedding guests at breakfast.
The hotel decor and finish is very tired now and you get the impression that a massive cash injection is long overdue. Bearing that in mind though it is clean and tidy, the food very nice, the staff helpful, the rooms massive and the spa treatments excellent.
I would recommend this hotel as it offers great value.

Thank you for your comments regarding your visits to the Elfordleigh as a regular customer.
On the occasions that the hotel does get very busy and you wish to enjoy a relaxing glass of wine outside we have the benefit of the Reynolds Terrace with its stunning views and outside Brasserie Bar area with both areas having their own bar serving drinks and food.
The Brasserie Bar is currently undergoing complete refurbishment that will be completed shortly. Bedroom bathroom refurbishment is complete with rooms having new carpet and decor.
We look forward to your return visit to the Elfordleigh and hope you will be impressed by the on going improvements.

Just had a 3-night weekend in the Elfordleigh while visiting our son who lives in Ivybridge. The building is a C19 Manor House with great views over a rolling golf course and is very popular for weddings. The rooms are large (ours had a King-size plus a single and STILL loads of room!) and the water pressure in the shower is great. As other commentators have said the building is "tired" in places but they have an on-going renovation programme. Breakfast is as expected and they will do anything you ask for. The staff are all friendly and helpful.

My wife and I were visiting Family and stayed at Elfordleigh for 3 days and had a great stay , our room was very large, spotlessly clean with fantastic views over the golf course , the bed was very comfortable and the courtesy tray was always generously stocked with coffee , tea , milk and biscuits , nothing was to much trouble for the staff , The Breakfasts were very very good and well cooked with plenty choice of cereals etc , if you are planning a stay in Plymouth area you will not better this hotel for the price and Facilities , the Gym is well fitted out and a Great pool and suna/steam rooms all in the price of the room . I highly recommend Elfordleigh Hotel you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: The Elfordleigh Suite is a great room , but so are the most of them which I looked into

We stayed at the Elfordleigh Hotel for 2 nights in early November and had a great time. The staff (reception, restaurant, sports) were all very welcoming and really helpful. I know it's only a small thing but 2 minutes after we'd asked for an extra pillow a member of staff was knocking on our door with it. The hotel itself was slightly in need of a make-over but was still very clean and comfortable. The swimming pool was lovely and there were 2 spa pools, a sauna and steam room. Amazingly there was also a squash court which we were able to book twice with no problem. We had a family room which was very large (bunk beds for the kids). It would have been good to have some coat hooks or a coat stand to put our outdoor gear on - the room was big enough to take it; also net curtains as being on the ground floor the room was being walked past. The bathroom was big as well and the shower was one of the best we've ever come across but make sure you bring your own shower cap as they don’t supply these! Finally a mention about the food - both the dinner and breakfast were excellent - over the 2 days we tried 4 choices from the dinner menu and we weren't disappointed in any. Overall we had a great stay and would recommend this hotel for its food, sporting facilities and friendly staff.
