“Impressive and worth a visit.”
Reviewed 16 September 2013

Right in the Centre of Plymouth. Survived Hitler's worst and is full of history - any trip to Plymouth should included a visit here, as well as the Hoe and the Dockyard.

“Lovely church, delightful welcome”
Reviewed 16 September 2013

I only had 10 minutes to have a look at the church, as a friend was meeting me. The lady who welcomed me, made sure that I saw the glorious stained glass by John Piper and showed me the Drake Scratching, a piece of early graffiti, uncovered during restoration, relating to Sir Francis Drake's circumnavigation of the globe. So glad I didn't miss seeing both things. The lady was so kind and rushed along beside me, bless her!

“The first rate mother church the city has always needed and loved.”
Reviewed 25 August 2013

Plymouth was lucky the burnt out shell after one bad night of the Blitz was quickly earmarked for rebuilding and reconsecration. Also that the process was carried out so sensitively and successfully. This is a big space, skilfully laid out and wonderfully enhanced by the Piper windows and one of the best organs in the west of England. I have been to very many events here, weddings, funerals, school and civic services especially carols, as well as dozens of impressive top flight concerts and recitals. I have often wondered whether it could not also be used for drama and debates but unfortunately unlike other big spaces like Exeter Cathedral, the seating here is fixed and cannot be cleared to enable an audience to wander freely or for the space to be more versatile. I really like, enjoy and use St Andrews and urge others to do the same. This is also a very active parish church which also has a substantial outreach role benefitting not only plymouth but also parts of Africa and more.
