We have come over here a couple times recently to relax and compensate for the modern complexities of supper at the big RockFish restaurant a few hundred metres away on the other side of the Aquarium. The thistle still retains a lot of character. Maybe all the old pub fittings have gone and the main space is a big open area but the bar is well stocked and staffed and there is generally a lively bunch of people in.over the last few years we have seen several bands or solo performers in here and had many good times. There are always at least a couple of very good ales featured.

Not in the heart of the Barbican and a comfortable distance just outside the Barbican Leisure Park, this well loved and established pub is a great place for a few pints of well kept ale and more besides. Friendly staff, always a good bunch of punters, frequent live music and a good feel. On the roof is a homely Thai restaurant if you like that kind of thing. I like the pub and highly recommend it. Beware parking around here is a bit awkward. Expensive in the multi-storey across the road or the ground level by the lodge style hotel and if you try to park free at the Leisure park there is a moderate to high risk that if they see you leaving the park and setting off towards the pub they will sting you with a fixed penalty. But then, if you are coming to the Thistle Park, you will have no intention of driving anyway.
